Classic & Vintage - Peugot Iseran

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I posted this over in the Road Bike section initially, since I don't believe it quite
qualifies for vintage status (it has index shifters, so I suspect it was built after the mid-1980s). But I thought people in this section might be able to give me some insights into this model of Peugot.
I'm a pretty serious thrift store and yard sale scavenger, and yesterday I picked up a Peugot Iseran in a Goodwill store for thirty bucks. It's in very good condition, and the previous owner or owners obviously took care of it. With a few adjustments it became evident to me that all the major components are in good condition.
At the very least it will be a servicable beater bike, but can anyone give any details on the Peugot Iseran?

It sounds to me like a nice find, although I don't know a thing about that model. Check for tubing stickers-- Vitus, reynolds. The double butted tubes usually indicate higher and middle end bikes.
Also, check the bottom bracket for the serial number. Info on reading Peugeot serial numbers can be found here:

Have fun.
Thanks, Poguemahone. The info on serial numbers on the link you gave me leads me to believe the bike was manufactured in 1987 (the serial number is Y70115198, and according to the site this is a 1980's norm for Peugeot, where there is a Y or B followed by the last digit of the 1980's date). The frame on the bike is not lugged, nor does it have a decal I can interpret indicating the frame alloy. It has a decal which reads as follows:
"Fabrication Peugeot
HLE
Haute Limite Elastique"
Note: I just noticed I've been spelling "Peugeot" wrong. I'll correct it in subsequent posts.
Also, a thread on a discussion on another forum I found during a web search indicated that Peugeot's lower end bikes had Nervar cranks. Since this bike has that brand of crank I suspect it was an entry level road bike. At thirty bucks for a bike that's immediately roadworthy, that prospect isn't too disappointing to me though.

It'll be a fine ride. It sounds like a later equivalent of my UO-10: a decent, roadworthy bike. Nothing fancy. Sounds like Peugeot tubing, which does indicate an entry level bike.
I paid thirty-five bucks for the UO, so you got a bargain. Enjoy.
Mis-spelling "Peugeot" is easy. I do it all the time.

Larry, 1987 may have been the last year French made Peugeots were sold in the U.S. You have a nice bike for $30.
