Yesterday, I cycled the MS charity ride from Miami to Key Largo on my
Speed P8. It performed admirably and held together without a single glitch.
(except for the $%&ing headwind)

Before, during and after the ride I received several positive comments from
"that's freakin' awsome", to "WOW, you're doing great!" (I'm guessing he
was shocked I had made it that far). Many had no idea what it was.
The 20" wheels really throw them off. There was one character that would
speed up every time I tried to pass, but that could have happened on any
bike. (yes, I did pass him just for spite) :D

Some notes:
It would have probably been easier if I was on a "real" road bike, but I
wanted the extra challenge (and I still beat 85% of my team). I also could
have used a few more gears for an ideal pace, but in my normal world of
commuting, simplicity is for the best. Finally, on this group ride there were
support vehicles and stations helping repair any problem that should arise.
If I had tire, spoke or rim troubles, they would be no help to me since they
only has large diameter supplies. Something to keep in mind.

So I took a bike that was not optimized for the job and made it work.

On a side note, I have a Brooks Imperial prototype installed and it really
DID help with the saddle sores.

Well done! By coincidence, I was on a not dissimilar event this side of the pond today- the Isle of Wight Randonnee (see http://www.cycleisland.co.uk/). I was intending to do 'just' the 55km route rather than the whole 100k round the island (still more than I ever covered in a day before), but in total, including the travel to and from the ferry either end, plus a few, ahem, 'detours', I ended up doing 59 miles in total- not surprisingly, I'm a little tired now...particularly towards the end, I didn't bother tackling some of the climbs on the bike (some of the ones I did were bad enough, though I probably didn't use the uphill mode on the DualDrive as much as I should), settled for walking up and not giving myself palpitations. Pleased to say even if the owner wasn't quite up to the job, my Jetstream XP was. Definitely The Little Folder That Could! Only slight bother was the chain coming off (cattle grid or cobbles on a fast descent..aargh), and that only happened once. I will be back for sure, to try the 100k next time. After a training programme I think...
One thing surprised me- the lack of similar bikes. There was a guy with a Bike Friday NWT on the ferry going across, a rather nice Grasshopper recumbent, and a Moulton of some description. Not one other folder or other small-wheelers at all, at least as I saw. At least two Trek Madone 5.2s, Specialized Roubauixs, all kinds of other road bike exotica...but they couldn't fit in the luggage racks on the ferry :)

Just rode the NYC 5 Boro Bike Tour (roughly 45miles) and had a great time. There were a few bottle necks where they had to stop traffic, but the majority of it was relatively fast. I took the Brompton because the forecast called for rain and my road bike lacks fenders. It's a stock M6L and I've never done more than 25 miles on it but it worked out beautifully. A few people around me at the beginning of the tour underestimated how fast I could go on it...until I dropped them rather quickly. ;) Toeclips were sorely missed though and the riding position was a bit tough on the tailbone towards the end.
