Is anyone doing this on the 17th? It got mixed reviews last year, but it does have advantage of being local for us SDers.

Maybe. My sister want to do a charity walk on the 17th as a family event. I'm going to offer her a $20 donation instead. I'm not sure if I can walk 6 miles.
Edit: it's 7.5 miles. I better start training if I'm going to do it.

I have a bowling tournament that day in la. Last year we rode the course but didn't pay nor used the sag stops. Was a good course. I saw a lot of people on mtb out there in poway so they did the metric on a full suspension

I'm in. From what I've heard (I have a friend who works the event), they have learned from their mistakes. Will have more food/fluid at the stops, a better finish area. Time will tell.

Time will tell. The organizer has been around for at least 10 years. He used to run the North American Triathlon Series and the Ballys Triathlons.

I am in on this ride. I spoke with a buddy who lives and rides in the area very regularly. He mentioned that the 37 mile ride is a pretty good one and the 66 miler can be rather brutal. I registered for the 66 mile ride but may opt for the 37 miler depending on how I feel. I will also be doing the sprint tri on the 18th.

Don't worry you won't miss much. I pre-rode this course last year and in my opinion it sucks. It's too urban and too many turns and too much navigating. In addition it doubles back on itself before going long (for the shorter options). I believe century riding should be fun and devoid of too much thinking--just go out and ride your bike.

No slight on the organizers or the support (I'm sure it will be great) since I did it solo 2 weeks before the event. The route chosen is way too urban and you shouldn't have to pay to do a century in your hometown. As for others traveling to San Diego to ride a century there are much better routes like the 200km brevet.

I'll be joining the SouthEast BikeForums folks to ride the Blue Ride Parkway that weekend.

It had tri girls. And DeWalt girls. It was fun. Even though our century was about 70 miles. And there was Olive Garden after.

I'm in... staying at my parent's house this weekend in Del Mar... riding the 103. Did it last year, and as hard, hot, and humid as it was, I STILL want to climb up that "purple Monster".

Did it, didn't quite melt, though close. I remember last year wearing a jacket all the way up the "purple monster." Not this year--it was killer hot. I have a cold, too, which made it all the tougher and threatened to kick off the EI asthma through a good part of the ride. I have never seen so many riders sprawled out at the rest stops, in the shade, not wanting to get back on the road! When we finally headed back to the coast, I was actually thankful for the head wind, because it was somewhat cool.

I'm with Shnuddy... last year I wore a jacket all the way to Ramona.... THIS year I was almost half naked tearing off my Jersey... although I started at 6am, the hardcore guys were also cursing the heat when I got up into Ramona at 10am... But hey... it was fun... I don't mind the traffic as I ride in it every day.. and I was THANKFUL when the rest stops started packing the ice into the water cans!

BTW... I love my purple coffee mug... I drank out of it this morning...

my "official" report

I woke up late, didn't want to leave my bed so early so I got a realy late start. Left my house at 9:30am and hopped on the route right at the first sag station. I passed only a few people so I was on the real back end of the riders. I drank 6 bottle of gatoraid today, having 3 bottles really really helped today and it allowed me to stop only once. One was in my back pocket and after I drank one from the bike I put the empty bottle back there so I didn't have to carry the weight for that long. I had to do a refill in PQ before getting on the bike path. By this time I was pretty cooked already and was planning my route home but still wanted to get some miles in. Ended up following the route back to SAG #2 then take Del Dios up back to Escondido.

Overall the weather kicked my ass but wasn't as bad as yesturday though. The winds going back to Escondido really sucked. I was topped out at 15mph on the flats due to the winds and lack of energy to fight through it, and the climb sucked even more at 6mph. I should have ate more during the route. Overall did 68 mile and 17.3avs, was back home a about 2pm Sorry no pics, my pockets were full already
