Got my Sunday morning ride in this morning (~8:30am) - I went up Wildcat, then South Park in Tilden, along Grizzly Peak/ Skyline before descending down Pinehurst. For the first part of the ride, I must have been going the opposite direction from a good 200+ riders. Any of you on that ride? If so, what was it?

It was great out there today -- it was as though the cyclists had reclaimed the roads, I hardly met any cars. Of course, the morning fog was bib shrivelling up top, but it was worth it.

i was wondering the exact same thing.

it could be a different ride,

but, i live in moraga, and the highschool i go to, had anywhere from 100-300 cars parked there, most of them with bike racks.
All day, bikes were going by me either from the school towards canyon, or vise-versa. much more than the usual sunday traffic, and i didn't recognize many of them, which is strange.

wish i could have rode today, but worked from 8-2.00 and now have some projects to finish. it was a perfect day, minus the wind.

I thought it was strange no one mentioned this ride. That was the Grizzly peak Century. It starts at Campolindo High School, but I since I live on Grizzly Peak I took the car free start alternative in Tilden. The stats for my route:

103.7 miles
9,218 feet climbed
6:48:56 riding time
7:22 total time.

This is a very well supported ride - they pride themselves on the food and I almost wished I was doing the metric century so I could really have dug in. I rode alone all day, just the was it turned out. but lot's of friendly people at the stops.

The only downside - man was it windy and cold in a lot of places.

Thanks RC - that makes sense, I've been seeing ever more cyclists on the road this year, but today was just over the top. Makes me wish I'd done my loop the other way around and I could have made some new friends; I just needed to flagelate myself on South Park Drive again.

Well done on completing the century.

I rode the Northern loop (73 mi) with some friends. It wound up a bit over 75 miles for us, we took a detour to avoid the last climb of the day, and were rewarded with a tailwind the last few miles to the finish. :D About 5600 feet, and waaay slower than RC. Gah, it was windy. Nearly always a freakin' headwind on the climbs. :p But it was a nice ride, with excellent support.

Yup, definitely Grizzly Peak. If it weren't for the fact I did Wine Country on Saturday, I would have done Grizzly Peak. I can't imagine how I did WCC double metric and Grizzly Peak on back to back days in my younger years. Grizzly Peak as a recovery ride???

On Bear Creek Road we passed by the scene of a very bad looking car-motorcycle accident.

I heard the sirens up ahead and then I turned a corner and came upon a bunch of stopped cars and a couple of police cars blocking the road on either end of the scene. I couldn't see over all the vehicles and the crowd of people forming, and my heart was in my throat when I asked a guy by the side of the road "was it a cyclist?"

I'm a bit ashamed to admit I let out a silent prayer of thanks when they guy responded "yeah, a motorcycle".

I rode by the scene and the crumpled-up motorcycle was in the middle of the road and the poor guy was laying in the road being tended to by a small group of people .

Here's a news report I found.
