Join our "Team Clydesdale." It's all very informal but we get together during the summer and fall for regular training rides.
We do mostly Oakland and Macomb County routes...Paint Creek Trail... Clinton River Trail... Macomb Orchard Trail... Addison Oaks Parks... Bald Mountain Recreation Areas. Stony Creek Metro Park.
Ostensibly, many of us are training for the 6-day Michigander in July... or the five-day Tour 'Da UP in August. And we do a lot of local one-day organized rides. Pace is relaxed and fun/
A group of us meet regularly through the summer at the Rochester Public Library for Saturday morning training rides. We call ourselves "Team Clydesdale." Check out the video at www.clydesdalefitness.com for a brief look at the first one we did yesterday.
Our next training ride will be Saturday May 17. 8:30 am at the library. Come join us!

Mike,
i met you on the michigander last year, what a nice ride that was. This year i bought a tandem and am taking my 9 yr old on a similar road ride in ohio (GOBA). btw, the clydesdale moniker can make a real difference in finishing times. i registered as a clydesdale in yesterday's Cincinnati 1/2 marathon, and finished 53rd out of 122 in my "division" (220# or more). that, taken together with running in the part of the field with mostly (cute) women, made the race very fun! my skinny buddy finished 1 hour quicker, but the scenery was not as nice up with him!

Not trying to rub it in or anything, but do you have to be a "Clydesdale" to ride with your group?

Is there a roadie chapter, or a west side one?

I'll try to see if I can make it for your next ride. I live out by the Lakelands RT but I have been itching to ride Paint Creek.

Nah... you don't have to be a Clyde to ride... we're probably half Clydes and half sub-Clydes... but it's a moniker that just stuck. With enough training, I'm hoping to loose my official Clyde status come end of the season anyway... :-)

As to bikes, I'm mostly riding a Bianchi Axis this year (a cross), we have some on MBs and several on roadies. We're not a particularly speedy bunch. We ride really well packed trails or roads, nothing a roadie couldn't handle.

The key for us is having fun, fellowship and goals. The latter are just easier to keep if shared.

And we be glad to sanction chapters across the region :-)

I'm hoping to do the Michigander (mid July), the Tour Da UP (early August) and the Dalmac (late August) this year. Tried to get in the PALM (it filled up in February) and briefly considered the Ride Across Georgia.

I'm also doing the Ride for Hope in Attica on June 28.

Every Saturday, a bunch of Clydesdales ride bikes togethe in and around Rochester, MI. We meet at 8:30am in the west lot of the Rochester City Library.

Some of us are training for long distance bike rides. Others just trying to get/stay in shape. It's very low keyed and lots of fun. Average distances are from 20 to 30 miles.

Come join us. Helmets are required.

You can stay informed of our activities at http://clydesdalefitness.com.
Here's a link to a video (http://www.youtube.com/v/gk3Dk_R-028) of today's ride
