I'm in need of a new bike but i'm very limited on funds. i was thinking about this as an option, just wanted to see if anyone else has gone to one of the locations to buy/build a bike.
thanks!

I've donated a few nice bikes to the store in DUMBO. RAB is a good organization and they have some decent bikes. More commuter than racing orientation, but good prices. Worth a look anyway.

The Recycle on C usually has decent bikes for decent price, but the bikes come and go quickly. I think the best thing to do is to turn up & tell them what you're looking for and what size. If something turns up, ask if they'll call you.
I wouldn't refer them for repair work though. The shop on C did some work on my single speed mtn conversion and it was very sloppy.
Continuum on B is pretty good. They have lots of old road bikes & track conversions and do good work.

Is Continuum good for people on a budget? Cause I want to get a single speed/fixed flip hub conversion but I'm on a tight budget like the OP.
Check out their site and give them a call: http://continuumcycles.com/
