I had to crunch a number or two. I suppose if I had ridden without any interruptions, I might have logged 1,200 miles since 01/01/08. But I took a month off due to sickness, then vacation. Subtract 300 miles for that.

Uhhhm....441 miles.
2,115 km since Jan 1. I cheated though and had the last 5 days of a ten day cycle tour at the start of Jan to help boost my total.

Since Jan. 1, I've ridden 1,320 miles commuting and 2,534 miles total. We've got pretty mild winters in NC, with very few days lost to inclement weather.
Commuting miles are 400 since April 2nd with 100 extra sprinkled in between January 1st-March 31st.

You people are animals.
I have ridden to work every day in 2008, 6.3 miles one way, but that works out to only 1008 miles.
A mileage total of over 2,000 miles would meat that a person rode to work about 12 miles one way every single work day. I'd be dead by now.

I don't know if excessive commuting miles mean much besides the rider having plenty of time to ride and possibly a slightly better fitness level. I have ridden almost 10,000 miles in a year and at the time encountered other cyclists that ride half that and were in better condition than I was.
Hence the reason I have decided to focus more on quality than quantity and am now following a training plan. Obviously I am mainly in it for the workout.

About 550. I don't like making excuses, but, February! February was brutal this year.

I've got 2,119 miles under to date this year (since the 9th of Jan). It's spread over 5 bikes - 2 of which no longer exist (well, they do - just in part form :))
I've had my IRO Rob Roy on the road for almost exactly 3 weeks and that's got 522 miles on it already. My Centurion has the record so far this year, with 926 miles.

Bike commuting is just how I get to work and back. I ride on the weekends for fun, and typically ride much further than my daily commute (which is 22 miles). Eg., last week I bike commuted 90 miles in 4 days, but I rode 95 miles in two days over the weekend.

I'm at 1100 miles but I didn't ride for 7 weeks because my son broke his ankle and I had to drive him to school. Had I been riding as normal I'd be at about 1800 right now (I do about 110 miles a week).
Other than that 7 week stretch, I have ridden every day except for a very few exceptions which probably total less than 10 days in the last 3 years.
2120 miles for 2008. I don't know exactly how many of those are commute, training, recreation, utility, or racing miles.

Congrats. You're doing great.

I ride every chance I get.

Use a cyclocomputer and then input the miles in a journal (I use the free version of bikejournal.com).

You get a lot of miles in by riding every day. I ride 21 miles a day, every day that I work.
I count it by recording my odometer reading on the 1st of the year, then every time I do maintenance (major maintenance like changing a chain, not oiling it or something) and I tend to make an entry when I roll it over a big number.
When I was a serious runner, I liked to log my totals, but it was pretty boring looking at all those numbers. I started plotting them on a map of the West Coast. on my wall with map pins. I just picked a route at random and each week plotted where I would be if that mileage had been along the route. I would usually make it up to Seattle or so for the year.
With cycling being 2 or 3 times easier, I started plotting mileage on a map of the entire U.S. in MS Streets & Trips instead using virtual map pins instead of actual ones. Same idea, though. You can see your progress at a glance and it is a lot more fun to tell someone you have ridden the equivalent of going to Kansas and back or whatever.
I "left" Riverside, CA Jan 01 and on paper will be pulling into Amarillo, TX by the end of this week. Look for me on I40. :D

probably around 500 commuting miles
...have bike commuted every day other than one since the new year.
I think I am about the 200 - 300 mile range. I hate to admit it, but I took the winter off. You know how it goes. One bad day of weater turns into 2, then into a week, then into a month, and then into all winter.
The mileage should be up sooner. I average about 170 mi/ week.
Congrats. You're doing great.

Yeah, I use a computer too. I didnt know that they had journals online, nor have i ever thought of entering it into a journal.
I'll start that. And I do ride everyday. Just not as much as everybody else. I'm gonna try to convince my parental figures to let me ride in the winter as well.

HOw might I go about doing this "virtual map" thing?
I've ridden 3166 miles since I got my computer last June, having just started biking last May. I would guess that around 1200 of that is this year. By contrast, I've only put about 2000 miles on my car since February 2007.

About 850 so far. Normally I'd have done twice that. The weather has been atrocious this winter. Rain I can handle but I'll pass on riding in hail.
My normal commute is 27 miles round trip with the option to use light rail to shave 6 to 7 miles off of it each direction (Helps me bypass the busy roads).
2,460 miles so far this year, or 3,960 kms.
most of that is not commuting tho, i'm more of a weekend-warrior who commutes now & then. [my cycling log (http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p3o2UbF12aFjycOL1UcN7XQ)]
1347 miles on road & counting...
2072. Hopefully I'm track to do 6 or 7k this year. Three Icestorms and two blizzards.

I am over the 2k mark for this year ... and only cycled 3 months.
killed 2 frames ... buying the next one tomorrow.
HOw might I go about doing this "virtual map" thing?
As I said, I use Microsoft Streets & Trips mapping software. There are others, I'm sure. You could even use Google Earth. I measure out the weeks miles on the map from the last point, then stick a virtual map pin at that location. Here's a section showing some running miles plotted through Arizona.
The easiest way to do this is to just get a paper map, and mark in your progress with a highlighter pen.

Just broke 6K for the year, but then I am training for RAAM. Only about a quarter of the miles have been commuting. Spent two weeks out in Arizona and rode 1,400 miles.

Began commuting at beginning of March due to January surgery. 1198 miles today.
Started riding as weather permitted March 10th this year, hit 715 today. I think winter is finally over. Yesterday was the first time I was able to wear shorts both ways! Today was the first time I didn't need warm gloves in the morning! I'm abit ahead of last year as I hit 500 on May 7th last year.
