Way to go, Chip. Don't go spreading your healthy living ideas too much, though--as a budding vascular surgeon, I need a certain reliable population of smokers to help put my kids through college. :D

(In case it wan't obvious, that was a joke, totally.)

Are you sure you don't like smoking?

To make things more interesting...I rode a very hard training ride today and now my hamstrings are cramping up. I just hollered so loud that the dogs are now all cowering in the corner with Cheri, and the cat fell into the toilet (heh, heh, every dark cloud does have a silver lining!).

Oh yeah....the reason I am quitting is even harder...racing. Quitting smoking is a good, healthy thing a sane person would do...racing a bike, not so much. The only reason I'm doing it is so I can shave my legs...I've noticed that my hairy legs just ruin the look of a nice slinky side-slit evening gown. :D

Just tell yourself that you can do any darn thing you want to do, except smoke! Worked for me six years ago. Probably the hardest thing I ever did, but I'm glad I did it. Whenever I see someone smoking, I feel sorry for them. Every day gets a little easier for the first few months, then you just thinking about it. Great feeling to be addiction free. (I could stop riding my bikes anytime I wanted to!);)

ChristAir

I spent 60 bucks on commit lozenges - ain't used one yet. I'm gonna try cold turkey first, I figure the faster I just kick it in the butt (har, pun intended), the better. Making my lungs scream for air on training rides helps too.

Finally a decent thread around here!

A cat in a toilet.

A women cowering in the corner.

A tobacco crazed shemale playboy model.

All makes for a great soap opera!

Siu Blue Wind

Chip. I have an idea. Why don't you put away the 6 bucks or so per pack of cigs it costs into a coffee can. Put that money in every time you would be buying cigs (once a day or once every other day, whatever). Keep in mind that this is money you are saving to buy that wonderful (whatever it is) you've always wanted. Keep putting money in there until you have enough to get that "whatever".

By then all the hard parts of quitting would have subsided quite a bit. And you are closer to your goal of getting your "whatever".

Great incentive to keep on going! :)

Chip,
I feel for you, man. I was a bar keep for a decade when I quit. UGA has many an alumni that have no idea how close they came to being the victim in, "The State v. AllenG". A twitchy, nicotine deprived, bartender is a mighty dangerous critter.

And strangely enough, so does whole cloves. My brother used that with much success.

Chip, one of the most effective methods of getting over that fixation with cigarettes is to smoke only rolled up horse manure cigarettes. Works every time.....no one gets past the first one.

By the way, you need the unfiltered ones for the maximum effect. ;)

I used to smoke, and quitting is literally one of the hardest things I ever did, so I am proud of people who make the attempt, also. Keep in mind that just like a really painful bicycle wreck you caught on videotape, quitting is one of those things that isn't very funny now, but a year from now you'll have some very funny stories. Use it as an excuse to eat a whole pack of Hostess Ding Dongs for a while, too. I had some very non-comedic visual hallucinations when I quit, but severity of withdrawal varies greatly by individual. :)

I'm helping my boss to quit as we speak...every time he lights one up, a grab him by the huevos and squeeze. Dunno if it's helping him, but it sure makes me feel better.
