How do I open these up? They have cups similar to the adjustable cup on old-style BBs on each side, but there is only one nut on the axle with wrench flats. I don't think they need to be serviced now, but this is kind of wacky(see french) and I'd like to put oil in them. Sam

Those six-hole items are just dust caps. They are threaded in, should be right hand thread on both sides. Behind them is a #6001 sealed bearing cartridge. You probably don't need to do a darn thing to them, and will have a bigger chance of messing them up if you insist on screwing with them.

The one nut you see (should be on the left side) is there for bearing adjustment. Mavic intends you check adjustment with the wheel mounted in the frame. Start loose, then sneak up on it while feeling for play at the rim.

My recollection of the OE bearings is that they're filled with a fairly light grease. I don't think you have much to gain with oil on these, and a good chance of hurting the bearings getting them out to clean out the grease.

Thanks, that's about what I suspected. Knew they were cartridge, but not what kind either.

I bought a set of wheels that have what seems to be the same hubs the OP. Mine have a hollow axle that uses an allen head machine screw on each side to secure them to the bike. Does anybody know if the axles can be changed out to a solid track axle? If so where do I get them?

I'm not sure if the axle can be changed out, but the allen type axles are pretty secure, and I can't think of a good reason to change it out.

I would just rather have all my wheels use the same wrench.
