Mountain Biking - Gripshift & Shimano crankset

Assuming I'm using a SRAM front derailleur, will gripshift work properly with a Shimano crankset (XT if it matters)? I figure it will, but want to make sure.

edit: Just read Pricepoint's info on Gripshift, and it will work with a SRAM or Shimano FD, so the crankset must not matter. Makes sense.

Actually I'm building a 29er single speed. However, in case I decide after giving it a go that geared is the way to go, I have gripshift along with some Shimano parts laying around. Looks like I'll need a SRAM RD to make it all work.

if only more people knew how annoying it is when you accidentally shift which is super easy to do with grip shifters, maybe they'd buy more useful shifters? :p

i think i might be unfairly biased against them. i had what i think was one of the first-gen grip shifting systems on a MTB around a decade ago. it just sucked; it wouldn't shift when i wanted but would accidentally shift all the time. it probably tainted my opinion forever.

I have never accidentally shifted by x.o setup. I have, however, dumped an entire cassettes worth of gears (on purpose) on a regular basis and lost about 100g off of my old x.0 trigger setup :)
