This morning, I decided to ride my bike to the gym (it's only 3.5 miles). I put in my full workout, which consisted of a 3.5 mile run on the treadmill, 45 mins. on the elliptical machine, an hour of weight training (chest only), and finally wrapping it all up with some abdominal work and stretching. Then, of course, I had to ride 3.5 miles back home. When I arrived at my house, a good friend was patiently waiting in my driveway...all geared up and ready to ride!!! I rarely get the opportunity to ride with this friend, so I felt obligated to go. I ran inside the house, did a quick clothing change into my cycling shorts, filled up my water bottle, stuffed 1 Snackwell cookie in my mouth, fed my cats, and off we went. My friend is way more of an experienced rider than I...he's been cycling nearly everyday for the past 2 years. He is now up to doing 75-mile rides in about 5 hours, on the weekends. I was nervous about being able to keep up with him (he's a tall guy with long legs, and he's very strong)...but I think I did okay. We did a total of 22 miles - some on the bike path, some on the roads. My average speed was 16mph, my max speed was 20.9mph. Aside from my short commutes to and from the gym, this was my first real ride in quite some time. I was feeling a little fatigued towards the end, but I attribute that to being hungry...I hadn't eaten anything (other than that 1 cookie), since 5am this morning, before I had left for the gym. So all in all...considering that I was hungry, and had put in my normal gym workout and was already feeling a bit tired...I'm pretty darn proud of myself for being able to hang with my friend. :D
