I'm visiting from out of town and I wish I had my Surly CrossCheck to soak up some of these rough roads. I use my CrossCheck to ride local trails in the Bay Area. It's the most comfortable do it all bike I've ever owned! I would say an Cyclocross bike for this area would be ideal.

I'm afraid the position is not too comfortable when you ride in the city streets.

I'd rather a little more upright riding position

My vote is for the Nirvana. It looks like you'd sit upright comfortably. I also like that you can adjust the angle of the handlebar. My bike has that too, and I was able to play with it until I found the right angle and height for me.

I agree with sitting upright while riding in the city so you can keep an eye on traffic.
