Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Newschannel 2 in Atlanta will be doing a spot on the local Tour de Cure and featuring me as a rider that has Diabetes. They want to interview me about what cycling has done for me and then film me riding out of my plant on a lunchtime training ride and maybe somewhere along the route. I will update the air time of the spot.
I am excited about this because as a Diabetic I realize the importance of stopping this disease. The other reason for the spot is to show that Diabetics can live an active lifestyle just like everyone else if you'll only get off the couch and "Git R Done". When people see this big Clydesdale pounding the pedals  maybe they will take an "I can do this too" attitude.
Please consider doing this ride and if you can't ride.... I would love a donation to the ADA on my behalf! Just go to: http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR?pg=personal&fr_id=5020&px=2844064 and empty your wallets!!! ;)

That's awesome! Very exciting!
Very nice!!!!
I have an awesome friend who has some brain injury/cancer problems who has become heavily involved with the Beachbody family (turbo-jam, turbo-kick, tony horton, etc) and she's been quite involved in the group video taping for paid advertising commercials, etc. She's one hell of a trooper.
And so are you!

So for those of us not in Atlanta, what has cycling done for you?
So you are Type 1? A few months ago I was climbing a local mountain road and started talking to this guy on roller blades, who was slowly making his way up so he could bomb down the road at crazy speeds. He said he was Type 1 and told me stories of getting caught out in the middle of nowhere on his bike with no food and suffering the consequences. When we got to the top he showed me his kit because he had to check his blood. I asked if he could tell what's going on by how he felt but he said it wasn't reliable so he had to keep pulling out the kit. Seems manageable but you have to be so vigilant. Can't be lazy. Anyways, I wanted to see him in action so I followed him down the mountain. He went almost as fast as I would go down on my bike. He constantly looked like he was on the verge of crashing! So yeah I saw firsthand that you can do anything.

Would you like for me to move this thread to the Southeast subforum so locals can know about it?

Sure.....BTW, The spot will air at 6:30AM on Sunday Morning, May 11. I guess they don't give the best air time to public service announcements!!! Still.... I think I did the local cycling community proud!
