Mountain Biking - Disc Brakes question

Hi,

Soon i'll be buying a new bike, it's going to be NORCO, one of these:
-4HUN (6inch disc brakes)
-Rampage (8inch)
-Sasquatch (8inch)

I will have a Marzocchi Dirt jumper II or I.

I wanted to know if I can fit the ShimanoXT BR-M756 DH Disc Brakes (4 piston caliper) on the bike i'll have, the bike comes with HFX-9, that says the fork can handle 8inch discs.

Now will I be able to put these XT discs (not the new 2 piston caliper, but the 4 piston caliper), the DH version has 203mm rotor, the regular version is 6inch.

Yes you can...as long as you have the specific adaptors/rotors for 203mm XT discs.

And where do I buy adapters? there is one for the rea as well?

What frame do you currently have?

What fork do you currently have?

Chances are that if you're using the 8" (203s) on your bike now, that the rear will be an easy swap over using the same adapter. (assuming both frames have ISO mounts).

Forks are a bit more complicated. If you are getting a DJ1 or DJII, you're probably getting a 20mm thru axel. You will need an adapter specific to these forks and your XT brakes. Almost ANY LBS can get you what you need. Figure to spend about $20 for each adapter.

I don't know, i'm ABOUT TO buy new bike (in 2 weeks), Haven't made up my mind yet, maybe you can help.
I don't want to go nutz and spend more then like 2300-2400cdn dollars.
I will ride urban and maybe dirt jumps and I dunno if freeride, I might though.
I wanna drop drops, practice and master wheelies and stoppies, bunny and stuff like that (and jumps..).

Here are my options (only NORCO, I get a discount from my LBS):

Anyway if I get a hardtail i'll have DJ1 fork for sure, if I get the atomik it's JR.T...
All the bike I written come with 8' discs besides the 4HUN (6'), so if I get the 4HUN what do I say to my LBS, adapters for XT 4 piston caliper and that will use 203mm discs? and on the others that come with 8inch, do I need anything?

hayes/hope/shimano/magura all use different adapters even if they are all intended to be made for 8" rotor upgrade. So if you got 6" XTs you need 8" rotors and a new DH adaptor specific for XTs by shimano

From what you describe the 4hun...the torrent is nice but has a geometry half way between a fr ht and a xc bike...makes it feel a little big for tricks and stuff...the 4 hun is built for that kind of riding.

The only other one I would suggest is the 125...great bike. For what you describe I would stick ht for sure :)

So not to go for Full suspension? what I really need to choose from is the Rampage and the 4HUN.

if i were to choose from those 3, i'd have to say i'd get the atomik. but if you're planning on mostly riding urban and djs, i'd say the rampage.

Definately...personally for what you described you don't need a dually and will, in the end, have more fun with a bmx style mtb. (it sounds like)...the rampage is a big bike fit half way between xc and djing so it fits big. If you plan to fr, dj and ride anything technical and not do long distances the 4hun is a MUCH burlier bike and will be much better for learning the basics.

If you were going to ride trails a lot then I would say rampage but make sure to fit it small so you will be comfortable in the air doing drops and jumps.

It's a hard decision though, cause I don't know if i'll go trailing with the bike i'll buy.

For now I also have a cannondale super V700... but I might sell it if i'll need money, if not i'll have the V700 for trailing or whatever.

If i'm size medium on my cannondale i'll be the same on NORCO? i'm almost 6' tall, maybe 5' 11'.

Problem is I am now for this year in Israel, and i'm buying my bike from Canada, so I can't try it.

Take a look at the Cove Stiffe FR. I have one and love it, I take it to the races and use it as a backup bike, and on some courses it's my first choice. I bought mine used on RM but new frames are under $500 at Jenson (http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product.aspx?i=FR707A03). It has disc bosses, I am running V's on mine now but after the new xc frame gets here I'm putting my dh wheels and discs on it and turning it into a ghetto bike. I have Hayes and 6" Shimano discs, Hayes makes adapters to go from either IS to 6" or IS to 8" and you can use any brand of disc with the same caliper, all you need is the proper adapter (I have tried it and it works).
