Foo - What brings you peace?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

For me, it's trusting myself and knowing things will work out eventually.
For me it becomes the situation, versus the decision, etc.
It's the quiet time - perhaps between 3-5 pm, where I'm usually outdoors, quiet - perhaps next to a water source or in a park or even just riding along on a quiet road, slight breeze and the sun still is warming and you just bask in it. Almost surreal. It smells good, it feels good - and for some reason my problems melt away at those moments. I smile then.

Certainly not my children. At least not yet. They are good people, but not a source of peace.
The closest I come is riding out on a quiet road on a nice day.
Been watching Oprah and Eckhart Tolle on oprah.com (http://www.oprah.com/obc_classic/webcast/archive/anewearth_archive_main.jsp?promocode=HP41)?
I feel most peaceful when someone is suffering behind me on a climb. That, and when I've had morphine.

When I have those few moments of total lucidity and I can let go of all the crap that's constantly going on around me. When I can find that 5-10 minutes of complete happiness in just being.
To crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

Dunno really..
- A table by the window with a cup of coffee and a newspaper.
- Watching a satelite bisect the Summer Triangle.
- Three or four friends and a pitcher of beer.
- Sunrise from above the tree line on the front range of the Rocky Mountains.
- Gas in the tank, snacks in the car, and an open highway.
- Walking outside on a sunny cold day in January after a fresh snowfall (in Minnesota anyway).
- Staring into a campfire at night.

sunny summer day, no clouds and just finished a ride up the mountain waiting to do the ride down.

The moments before I wake up, when I'm semiconsious...just before the alarm buzzes.

The ring on my finger.
But seriously, I guess really and truly having nothing that needs to be done, and thus being able to enjoy the moment without worry might do it. Not sure, though. It's not a feeling I can often claim, unfortunately.

On a really long ride, I fall inside myself and the world simplifies to the patterns around me, and the patterns of breathing.
It's literal perfection....no pressures, no worries, just existing in the moment.

Sitting on the porch, good beer in hand, good friends sitting with me, working on bikes. :D
All I need is to be careless, worry free, and be with someone I love, doing anything. Best, feeling, in the world.

Sometimes my friends...but when they fail, my pimp usually comes through.

The 5-10 seconds laying on the ground after a crash thinking "Damn I'm ok".... before you see the damage to your motorcycle, bike, etc.

Does he let you keep $5 extra per trick?
My truest peace lately comes from my family.
Doing something simple like snuggling with one of my son's, watching a movie and rubbing his hair and seeing a smile spread across his face, brings me peace and contentment.
Last night as I lay in bed with my three year old, singing The Spirit of Aggieland as he made the hook em horns sign and grinned and giggled, I was as happy and at peace as I think I have been in a long while.

I knew some guys in a band back in the day, that did a rework of that song. One of the guys name was Chance. They sang it as "All we are saying, is give Chance a piece." It was funny back then, but I was usually drunk, so maybe not.

It used to be the occasional cigarette. Then I quit smoking.
For a long time it was booze. Lots of booze. Then I quit drinking.
Now I just beat the hell out of myself riding hills. It's hard to be anything but peaceful when you're too tired to move.

Waking up and seeing the love of my life sleeping next to me. A year ago I didn't think she would still be alive, and now she's talking about getting a bicycle instead of a trike because her balance is improving. Baby steps add up.
Knowing I'm in the middle of God's plan for my life and knowing that He is in control even when I am not.

So much in life if just stressful. Riding a bike just instantly gives me some sense of peace.
