Hey folks,
I'll be in CNY in mid-July for a few weddings, and I'll be spending about a week in Hamilton, NY, with just me and my bicycle. Can anyone recommend some good routes in and around Madison County? I was already planning on going up to the Chittenango Falls in Cazenovia on one day, but am wondering if anyone else has any routes with great scenery and/or good climbs/descents. I'd also be interested in riding with other folks, if there's any around!

The riding posibilities starting in Hamilton are endless. So where to ride? Well, much of that depends upon you and the types of roads you enjoy. I am guess you are talking road riding, but there is plenty of off road as well. Hamilton is less than 10 miles from the Brookfield Horse Trail System where you find 15,000 acres with 130 miles of trails begging to be ridden by bike. As for road rides you have a extensive choice of State Roads with wide shoulders with light traffic or Town and County Roads with no shoulders and no traffic. By riding north or South on New York State Highways 12, 12, 26, and 46 you can avoid most of the major hills. Head east west on any roads and enjoy the hills. Don't limit youself to Madison County, but consider Chenango County as well.

I live in the area so let me know what sort of riding you really want and I can give additional suggestions. Enjoy both the Village of Hamilton and Colgate University!

telejohn... that website is AWESOME! I wish I had been riding when I was a student at Colgate, all those opportunities!

Wells, I'll be riding on the roads. I'll be staying at my old fraternity house at Colgate for about a week, so if you're up for a ride, let me know!

What dates are you around. I have a busy July, but maybe we can work something in. How long since you left Colgate?
