Hi,

I'm a Cat 4 racer and daily bike commuter in the Washington, DC area who will be visiting the Denver area during the week of June 9 - 13. I'm staying at the OPM training center in Aurora, which is conveniently located across the street from Cherry Creek State Park (from what I remember from my last visit to CO, when I stayed downtown, I'm pretty sure Cherry Creek is at the end of one of the major bike trails, right?).

In any case, I'm looking for any group rides in that area, or even evening races, training or otherwiwse. Any thoughts?

I am a solo rider, so I can't help you on the group rides. I can tell you that Cherry Creek Reservoir is in the middle of the trail. You can actually ride north to downtown. I think it is 16 miles to confluence park where it meets the Platte River Trail. You can also go south for another 20 or so miles, or so I am told. I have only been a bit south of there.

Unlike many trails, the ones in Denver are often wide open and have serious riders on them. There are a few congested areas where you need to go slowly, but plenty of long stretches where you can cruise at 20 MPH or more.

Check out the "Take Me Racing" thread for info on the Tues/Thurs training ride (race paced) at the Meridian office park. Also check out Americancycling.org for the overall CO race schedule. There is a weekday evening race series starting up sometime soon.
