Last night when I left work I turned the AC off. Yes, the weather is perfect for having the windows up and listening to the spring birds in the trees outside but the overweight car drivers start sweating with temps over 70 and they still rule the office. Today, I was admonished to "use the remote" next time. Apparently the new AC has a remote control like a TV set has. Who would've guessed? The issue is that if I don't use the remote when I turn it off at night, the car driver has to walk an extra 10 ft. to turn the thing on. Its great. I walk past the AC on my way over to get the remote. For the rest of the warm weather season I get a chuckle at the end of each day.

It's really amazing how many people I see driving with the windows up in their cars, A/C on of course, when it's 65-80 degrees outside. When I'm (rarely) riding in a car, I always have to at least crack the window a little no matter what the weather. It's just so stuffy and confining. The way I see it, one can adapt to the man-made environment, or the natural one that was here before us and will be here after us (assuming we don't destroy it first :p).

I only use A/C at home mainly at night when the humidity and temps are equal and over 80+. I work outside all day, so getting in A/C when I come in sucks. The motel I am currently at has windows that open:beer: so open they is! I mainly use the A/C on the truck when I am driving at highway speeds (better mileage and the wind beating on you makes you fatigue easier) But on a good day on a back road....;)

When I drive around town, I almost always have to have the windows up. This town, and actually the entire OK panhandle, is very dusty AND windy which will quickly equal a filthy vehicle. So, the AC unfortunately comes on more often than it ought to.

Yup...though on a large square brick shaped crew cab dually pulling 16,000 pounds of trailer and backhoe...I seriously doubt open windows make a whole lot of difference:p

If I could figure out a way to move heavy equipment and materials with a bicycle I would...:(

Which is more efficient, AC or windows down depends on how fast you are going. At street speeds the windows are less of a drain. At freeway speeds, punch on the AC. This was confirmed by the Mythbusters (http://mythbusters-wiki.discovery.com/page/Keeping+the+Car+Cool?t=anon).

Dunno, but he insulted a driver in the context of A/C? But, if using a remote for an A/C system is such a challenge, why not just turn it off at the breaker and leave it off?,,,,BD

You think its an insult maybe. The car driver doesn't see anything wrong, if there is a remote of course you don't want to get up to flip the switch even if it means more effort. Its the idea of using the remote. Like I said, I never would have guessed that they made remote controls for A/C rather than designing better automatic controls and doing better capacity planning. I didn't say "challenge" did I? I don't mind laughing each time I walk right past the on/off switch to go get the remote. Its one of those amusing things that happens.
