Here is e-mail from Mike Hernandez regarding new beginner session that will start on May 12:

Hello everyone.

Please spread the word that Hellyer will be offering Monday Night Beginner Sessions beginning May 12th. They will likely run every other week through the summer, but please check the Hellyer Calendar (http://www.ridethetrack.com/calendar/) for specific dates.

Here's a little blurb:
- - -

The Monday night Beginner Sessions are introductory sessions oriented towards introducing you to Hellyer Velodrome rider etiquette, rules of the track, and concepts of track racing. These workouts will be low-intensity, focusing on application of etiquette/rules in a fun, relaxed environment.

Track opens at 5:30pm, Session begins at 6pm, close at sunset. Rental bikes available @ $5, and track use fee of $5.

Any questions, please contact Michael Hernandez:

Oh that's great news. I highly recommend going to the track, and any of the beginner sessions are a great way to get familiar with how to ride safely on a velodrome. They typically also do beginner sessions on Saturday mornings. More information on the track is at http://www.ridethetrack.com.

I plan on going next monday to lose my track virginity.:D

The current plan is to take Caltrain to Palo Alto, where someone has offered to give me a ride.
I'm not sure how I'm getting home yet.

Oh oh, why do I sense some pain coming to the velodrome soon??

If you ever get into the Wens nights lmk, we have a carpool thing going on from the City.

yep, fixed-gear single speed track bikes only. No freewheels or brakes allowed. They generally have rental bikes available at beginner sessions for $5.

I expect PM to be racing with the A group pretty much right off the bat.

yeah i saw on that site that you can rent bikes. i was wondering why. that's pretty cool. i wouldn't be able to go down during the week, but on a weekend, it'd be cool to watch. maybe take the fixie out there lol

as platypus pointed out there are beginner sessions every Saturdays from 8:30/9:00 AM to approximately 12:00 PM (unless it's raining or very-very windy). so, come over and join ;)

oh, one more thing. if you planning to drive to the velodrome, keep in mind that there's $6.00 entrance fee per vehicle (velodrome is located in a county park).
