I don’t comprehend what she is saying!?!?

I joined the dark side last Friday! I have a brother that has been riding recumbents for years. I convinced another brother to buy a recumbent a year ago... I saw my recumbent on sale and tried to convince yet another brother who is having back surgery in two weeks that he needed to buy it; but he turned me down… so I bought it!

’07 Sun EZ-Rider SX – She’s a heavy beast but it’s still faster than any of my brothers!
The rest of my collection is as follows:
‘96ish Giant 890 hard tail MTB; that has been retired to my campground/family ride bike
’04 Fuji Royal flat handle bar road bike that is my commuter
’87 Trek 660 road bike
’06 SE Draft single speed that I bought on a whim
’89 Burley duet tandem

On a side note… She has 10 dogs!

You should have her committed immediately, she's obviously insane.

Could be worse. My father asked me " Just how bikes DO you have?" I told I didn't know; I wasn't sure. In a very loud voice he says "What do you mean you DON'T KNOW?" Well, I haven't counted them latley.:)
Think it's down to 11 and I gave two away; one to my son and one for his lady. But hey, I only have two dogs! Next bike, a recumbent.

So give one of them to her for Mother's Day.

madhouse -- yup, i understand the name now! :D

ten dogs... I like dogs, a LOT, but even I wouldn;t get ten of them. You just tell her that the
sum cost of all your bikes is probably less over the years than all the dogfood combined for the
same time, EXCLUDING the ridiculous vet visits. She may hate you for it, but it is the truth.

That and 4 kids...

There is no doubt that my bikes are a LOT cheaper... plus she has two bikes and her half of the tandem

Sounds like you need to buy her a recumbent too!:p

Officially, you are one bike short. The correct number of bikes is n+1, with n being the number of bikes you currently own.

I can live with lots of bikes cluttering up a spare room, but there is no way I could ever live with ten dogs. That is about 10 too many for me.

The only way I would put up with 10 dogs is if I was running a kennel for profit.

That's the attempt... However, my commuting has saved more money that she has made.

Well, do you ride all of them? I have a stable of 3 right now, and I can see boosting it to 4 or 5 currently, as i'd like a folder and a smaller uni. Each is for a specific reason, and it's a nobrainer which I should use for any given situation.
If you have bikes you never get around to riding because they don't do anything you actually do on any sort of reasonable basis better than the others, then that's a bike that would be perfect underneath someone else, be they family, friends, or a used bike purchaser.

madhouse

Well, do you ride all of them?

Absolutely, they all get ridden and have a different purpose…

The MTB is my family/recreation bike that weathers many storms on the back of the camper.
The Trek is my vintage road bike that is my preferred ride for organized events and hammering
The Fuji is my dedicated commuter that is fully equipped with lights/racks/fenders/mirrors
The tandem has the kid stoker crank so I can go riding without a sitter, or fit a ride in and get junior to baseball
The recumbent, leisurely riding with my slooooooww brothers
The single speed… OK that was a whim

You know how Bicycling Magazine has a "Question of the Month" each issue--a few years ago the "Question of the Month" was How Many Bikes is too Many?

The best response was:

You should always be one bike short of a divorce.

Happily divorced. :D :D

She didn't ride. Never learned and had no interest in learning.

You need to add some lighter bikes to your stable. BTW, what kind of dogs are they? I wish my wife wanted more dogs.

All of my bikes have the same weight issue... the engine! I'd be better served loosing weight than spending money to lighten the load.

To answer your question... Mostly Yorkshire Terriors with a Borzoi, Lab, Poodle, and Papion thrown into the mix.

In that case, if your wife thinks you have too many bikes, you should get a friend to say how frugal you are. Just think of how much you've saved by getting bikes rather than a sports car.

If I had 10 dogs, I think I'd want them all to be "exotic hybrids" -- preferably in the 70-100lb range. I think if you have put put up with a pack of Yorkshire Terriers, she owes you on the bike issue.
