Fifty Plus (50+) - I read Bicycling Magazine so you don't have to (June edition)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This month's Bicycling Magazine in 30 seconds:
- David Byrne rides bikes. Always has.
- We hear that Shimano is coming out with two new Dura-Ace groups, but we don't know what they are.
- There's a pretty cool bike shop in New Hampshire.
- Want to win your next race? Think positive. Focus. Don't get stressed.
- Here's a weight loss tip we might have shared in past issues: eat less. Exercise more. Another good way to lose weight is to ride on your lunch hour, because you won't have time to eat if you're riding.
- If you learn to descend and corner faster, you'll be a faster rider.
- The Netherlands are (is?) a better place to bike than the US of A. Places we especially don't like in the U.S. include Dallas, Memphis and Miami.
- You'll stop better with good, clean, unworn brake pads. Another tip: grease is good.
- Since we don't have the budget to write about custom bikes, we decided to host a "special advertising section" consisting of 10 pages of ads from custom bike makers. Elsewhere in the magazine, we feature the 11 best bikes in America. If you can tell the difference between our ads and our reviews, you win!
Behind in your reading?
Here's May's issue:

That about covers it. Saves me time and money. Thanks.

I never knew you could lose weight by eating less and exercising more. Thanks!

Lame joke continues to get laughs.:p
I just wish Bicycling would share more of their tests with us. I know they are riding and analyzing and comparing bikes, but we only get the summary paragraph, not the full test report.

Thank you for your report. Can we assume we will get future reports? Then I can cancel my subscription.
They have become way too predictable.

I will be getting my free subscription for joining the LAB... So, I'll get to skip the reading andjust look at the pretty pictures.
Thats how some of us read magazines in our youth. Different magazines, and a different kind of pictures.
No hot chicks in lycra?
Regrettably, not in this issue.

I may be in the minority here, but last month's feature on Andy Hampsten was worth the price of the magazine, and this months story on Amsterdam had me thinking about retirement there.

And you can probably cut and paste for the July edition, too:rolleyes:

Now I don't need to waste time reading it for free in Wal-mart. Thank you!

The best bike tests I see regularly are those in Bicycle Quarterly, a must-read publication for anyone who still likes to consume information on dead trees.

I think their online reviews have been pretty good www.bicycling.com (http://www.bicycling.com) They pointed me toward my Parlee.
But yeah, it really is the same information every month.

And here I always thought that you didn't want grease on your brake pads.
Thank you Bicycling Magazine!

I knew all that, except the bit about David Byrne. Does he wear the "big suit" while riding?

Me too! Alan see you there! :D
But you left out the Beavis and Butthead illustrations!

Last time I read Bicycling was in about 1984, sounds about the same.
Thanks summary.

All the really good ones got booked to work for Lowrider this month...
You left out probably the most important page - the cool recipe for Whole Wheat Raisin Walnut Rolls. Good stuff, especially laden with butter.

Keep up the good work, you have saved us at least $4.98 each!
Was there a 24 year old with ripped abs on a $12,000 bike on the cover?
Bengeboy - You forgot their once yearly article on how recumbents can't climb, are slow, are uncomfortable and are only ridden by ancient white bearded e-hippies, usually only those with physical disabilities! :>D

Can you expand your reading to include Popular Photography? I would really appreciate the digest version. Thanks! :)
