It's May 15th here in Los Angeles.
http://www.metro.net/news_info/press/metro_060v.htm
May 14th for me. I need to figure out how to eliminate cross-town meetings so I can ride more often. I've really gotten tired of driving to work.
That's the one thing I like about being a teacher. 95% of my days start and end at the same location at the same time. The only question is straight home or the scenic route.
My school is having Bicycle Week next week to try to get people to ride their bikes in. They're giving out free food to anyone with a bike (even if they park and carry it in to campus).
The way I look at it, I'm going to get free food for doing something I would do anyway.
Anything for Irvine area, that maybe involves free bagels or donuts? :D
My school gives free food to kids every day, bike or not :D
I know there's something going on in Pasadena. I don't think my commute goes by any of the "rest stops" but they're giving out free food and having events all week.
There's a rest stop in Glendale at City Hall.
Here are all the pit stop locations, for those who are interested:

^ Thanks. I usually go up through La Canada, but I have a route through Glendale which I might use just for the festivities.
I thought it was bike to work week?

What's the menu at Nytro?
I'm going to drive every day that week, just to avoid the doofi who feel the need to be a part of something they obviously aren't, or ever will be.
So, what you're saying is "my way or the highway?"
:D

Don't worry, Alice. I speak "crank." What's he's really saying is:
"It's regrettable that more of the citizens of our fair city do not see the value in or have the ability to ride to and from their workplace (or other destinations) on a regular basis without a special week devoted to doing so.
In deference to them, I plan to refrain from interfering with their experience in the hopes that more people will adopt cycling as their regular mode of conveyance to and from wherever they need to go."

If you ask Metro to send you a bike path map, they'll mail you one, along with a free patch kit.

Very nice of them!
I can get the map online, but not the patch kit.
I'm in. How the heck do I get from Rancho Bernardo to Downtown San Diego? 25 miles by car on freeway, probably 40 miles each way biking. I guess I will do century on that day :-)

I have the same map - I got it at a bike shop for free last week.

Thanks! I guess the plan is RB -> Del Mar -> La jolla - Mission Bay - Downtown

They sent it with the map without asking for it...
Last year they advertised the patch kit if you signed up to bike commute that day.
Can they make the print any smaller on the rest stop list?

Are they giving away any Colnagos?

It sounds better when you say it.

They're giving away all of that Campy crap that nobody ever buys. Heck, I may ride my bike that day. I need some paperweights:)
i ride my bike to work every day anyway.

Me too. I'm not aware of any other viable means of transportation for getting to work, besides the bicycle.
Unfortunately, I don't work Fridays, so instead of biking to work on Bike To Work Day, I'll just ride all over town decked in business casual.
^ Hey, where does one find that sticker as shown in your avatar?

Thanks! I'm going to order some of those when I get home... and maybe offer to fix the grammar on their site.
Does this by any chance coincide with "Stink to high heaven at work week", because if it does I'll mention it to the boss.
