Just got my 705 last night and took it for the first ride this morning. I'm very impressed.

No so, though, with Garmin's online reporting. I can't get either Training Center or the new Garmin Connect to work. I get a message half the time saying the website is down for maintenance and updates... the other half, my info won't upload.

Oh yeah, gotta weigh in on the calories issue, too (pardon the pun :)). Others have noted its programmed inaccuracy but it seems to me to do great harm to Garmin's credibility with fitness fanatics when the calorie display is at least three times the actual number. This has been a longstanding issue that you'd think Garmin would do something about.

Anyway.. I really like the 705. Can't figure out how to get two windows to display on maps, though. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions and impressions.

Training Center stinks.
download the freeware Sporttracks from www.zonefivesoftware.com.
I'd pay $100 for the software. It's that good.

Sportstracks looks absolutely amazing... alas... it's PC only. I use a Mac. BUT... I also have Parallels so downloaded it and, double alas, it doesn't import from the Edge 705.

I have a Garmin 305 and use MotionBased.com. Aside from the fact that there a lot of steps to go through to download a ride, I have had no problems with it. Does the 705 work with MotionBased or do you have to use Garmin Connect?

True. I just went through that learning curve. The 705 connects as a drive. Navigate to the history folder and find the TCX files. Copy the TCX files to the PC (can't speak for MAC efforts) and use a TCX to GPX converter. Convert the tcx files to sporttracks gpx files. Then import the gpx files into sporttracks.

The good thing (for me) is that I was archiving my tcx files to the PC while I figured it out. Was worried that there was a major problem ... and I'd loose the data. Then I found the TCX to GPX converter.

Just wish either Garmin would save to gpx or Sporttracks could have a built in converter.
