Folding Bikes - Folding bike suggestion?

What is a good suggestion for a folding bike that is under $150 or $200? I don't mind if it is fixed/ single speed. I am about 6'4" and would like it as light as possible.

I know a few people here have had a run in (not so good, though) with the http://www.citizenbike.com/

If you just need a cheap bike that folds it might do the job.

Don't buy the Kent if you're over 6ft. I have one, and although teh bf and I are very comfortable on it (I'm 5'4"-ish, he's 5'7"-ish) I don't think anyone much taller than us would be. It's very cruiser-like in both geometry and speed, though you can easily tinker with the components to improve it.

Just watch, because you are at the top end of the height range for many folding bikes. Also you did not indicate your build/weight, nor what size bicycle you are interested in - full-size wheels, 20", 16", < 16"...

You don't have many choices ... the Dahon will do fine for most purposes.

If you're price conscious, you might want to hit Craigslist and look for a deal.

The unfortunate answer is there isn't one. Both the ability to fold and light weight come at a premium on a bicycle. Perhaps evaluate if a folding bike is really necessary. A reasonable non-folding bike is a more likely find at that price point unless you buy a folder that's stolen.

I 2nd a dahon boardwalk S1. It's the only thing in that price range that I would think of as a decent quality bike. I think you would still end up spending an extra $35 on this:

Still, you can find a used S1 on craigslist from around $150-200. Not a bad deal at all.

At least I've heard of Dahon ...they've been making folding bikes for the last 25 years. ;)

Dude - look at the wheels. Hard to imagine 4 or 5" wheels actually working as a bike.

The best choice for you is the Boardwalk S1. If you wish to make it at a few pounds lighter, that is really easy to accomplish. All you have to do is remove the fenders and the rear rack and that should lighten you up at least 4 pounds. To really continue to lighten the load add more quality parts (which is usually lighter than cheapos) and keep off unnecessary accessories and you will be set. The fit of a bike depends on the overall proportion of the user's body part (i.e. length of arms/legs, torso, and hand/feet size etc.) One person might have short legs and large torso and another one might have very long legs and a small trunk. And both would be the same height.

It is rather a limited of new bikes available for the quoted price range you set. I am a very happy owner of the Boardwalk S1 for 5 years now and would strongly recommend it for someone like you with your height/weight range.

The interesting thing is that the Boardwalk S1 is not listed with the 2008 models under either US or International. They do list the Boardwalk D3/D7 which weighs... D3: 12 kg (26.4 lbs.); D7: 11.7 kg (25.74 lbs.)

So the S1 would presumably weigh less... I would guess about 1-1.5 lb less?
