I got a look at one last week. They are pretty good facsimiles of the original. The parts are a little cheaper, but it's a compelling deal at $250. Makes me upset about spending what I did on my Strida5 :(.

warranty's are only as good as the place that can stand behind them..
i love the strida bike concept, but its distribution channels are horrid, and off-the-shelf parts are rather scarce for things that COULD go wrong...
I think im going out on a limb here, but I really think that knock-off strida's are a GOOD thing, becuase it gets that many more of these kind of bikes out on the market, and hopefully an aftermarket can be established that can provide spare belts, hub assy's, ball joints, front crankwheels and rear gear wheels and whatever proprietary parts that belong to these bikes - the better-quality (opposed from the poor ones) bikes are completely interchangable.
I own a knock off strida, and if anyone wants close-ups of any parts, bolts, seatpost thing, brakes, frame welds, measured-dimensions, im more than happy to provide them. Every bolt on the bike is of first-rate finish with torque indications on everything from allen-key bolts that hold the seat to the frame to the wheel axles. There is a forged crankset which has a faint "S" on the crankwheel side (strida or specialized, not sure..) and even details like the plastic bolt caps that go on the seat frame bolts are included and aren't brittle egg-shell plastic!
now what i CAN admit where the knock-offs cheap out are on the:
1. tires
2. brake levers
3. brake calipers
4. saddle
5. screws that hold the fenders to the frame
6. reflective stickers and the helmet warning sticker
now before u jump on the "wtf, tires and brakes and u STILL BOUGHT it??" the tires are still better than what u would find on a bike at canadian-tire/walmart and brakes are still of first rate quality, IS-compatible discs and calipers and very-well could be what came on some production runs of Strida 5.0s - as discs/calipers varied from run to run (some wavy, some wide and some wide and not wavy)..
so how did they get the price down so low? quality of assembly could have been better and i figure this has a fraction of the man-hours put into assembling and testing the bike before it left the factory. i re-tightened everything from the fenders, bottom bracket, to the seat-bracket and nothing stripped, re-trued the rims, and re-aligned the brakes. stock tires could only do 45psi max, so i swapped them out (thanks for all the help guys!). Got the bike 2nd hand and even after changing the saddle im still under $250..
my previous 2 sub $500 folders didn't come close to this one in the fit and finish.
just remember, there are really crappy knock-offs out there, too. these ones have poorer brakes and incorrect wheels and generally feel really flimsy and i'd be afraid to ride them with tires over 45psi as the vibrations would shake the thing to bits!

just remember that more than 80% of the worlds bikes are produced in asia and about 80% of those are consumed by the asian market. if you get a chance to take a look and compare the knock-off to the genuine article, i think u'd be surprised...
