Folding Bikes - Commie R20

Not a folder, but interesting nonetheless.

Nice little separable. Right now I'm trying to decide what I am going to do with it as far as more upgrades. I currently have a 451 flip flop, which I might put on it.

Very cool - this one is for sale on CL in Toronto for $150.

I got mine for $10 US at a garage sale. Although I obviously got a great deal, $150 is more than just a little steep, in my opinion,

I would pay 150 for one of these easily. You know how rare a non folding R-20 is here in the states? Cresent made decent road bikes in the 70's. They were Moltini Orange with the checker board in various places. They also have a pretty odd headbadge that almost wraps all the way around the head tub. This folder/non folder also is lacking the bottom frame stays which might take away some of the frame rigidity, but would enable you to build a seriously light bike.

I am definitly going to have to start looking up Crecent to see if I can score one of these puppies...
The blue paint job on it is pretty stellar too...

Juan 10 bucks is a complete steal though :)

I managed to find a non-folding R20 here in Ohio from a fella who bought it at an estate sale. Really fantastic shape, too! No rust, just needed to be wiped down. At the time, I was a little disappointed that it DIDN'T fold.

PHAT: You should look through Toronto CL more, lots of RSW, r20, both of north american and european descent... the non folding ones are usually cheaper... you have to watch out for the CL hipsters though that want an arm and a leg for it.

Once in a while a lay person will sell for a good price (though nothing like Juan's amazing $10 deal... hell I'd take that at a drop of a hat...)

I understand why you'd want one. Just to be clear, it is a separable - there is essentially a really big screw that holds the front of the bike and the rear triangle together. I really am considering throwing on my 451 flip flop, getting a front to match, and running it with a front road style break. The other thing I would like to upgrade is the bottom bracket. It's a one piece design, but I have seen some 1 piece to 3 piece crank conversion kits on line. I have a spare 105 crank that I would luv to throw on there. :)

...and yes, even in its current configuration, it is definitely quite a bit lighter than my R20,

These crescent "Separable" bikes look like they may have come with 451's original... Is that the case?

RxDa90- your forlder should be on 451's if Im not mistaken, because I dont believe the non folding R-20 was ever sold on U.S. soil. (all R-20's sold here were on 406 I believe)...

Im not too sure I wan to look at bikes in Canada, cuz it will just make me drool. I wont want to have to pay the shipping to get one to the middle of america. I drove 8 hours to chicago to pick one up a couple months ago... Took the wife and kids and made a vacation out of it :)

Thanks for pointing out the Separation in the Crescent bike, I didnt see it. Still a cool bike.
