That's a nice park now isn't it? It's nice to see what's been done to preserve as much of the old track that's left.

Is the 2 mile loop the full loop? I did that last year and ended up carrying the bike up the steep hill in the section where the track's been washed out for years, and once was enough for me.

hmm.. I've heard of the area because of the old race track (it popped up on a chicagoland car enthusiast forum) but i haven't been there before. do you think a newb on a cyclocross bike could handle it? I'm about ready to get one of those.

Google Meadowdale (http://meadowdaleraceway.homestead.com/) for the back ground, it's pretty interesting. Much of the original track is till there, although the remaining sections aren't as wide as the used to be. There is enough of the old infrastructure to give you an idea of what used to be there over the years. Some of the old track is still passable, I know a few people that rode on it years after the track closed. You should be able to ride on these sections on a roadbike, but watch out for the bumps etc... that have occurred since the track was new. The section by the Huntley Road access is the best in the park, and makes a loop that you should be able to get around. The section to the north of the route 31 entrance is the part where the pavement has disappeared, and that's the part that had me carrying my mountain bike while I climbed out of the ravine.

How about going out and walking around to get a feel for the place? If you heard about it before you're probably find the park interesting enough to wander around on foot, and that will give you an idea about coming back with the bicycle.
