Hi All - I have a 1999 or so Marin dual suspension bike that originally came with a Manitou Magnum. Somewhere along the way a freind gave me a Manitou X-Vert and I swapped the fork out. It was always a mixed bag - the X-Vert is smooth and plush and offers significantly improved control over rough terrain but...it's 1 1/2 inches taller which increased the trail and decreased the head tube angle resulting in slow steering and the tendency to fall into turns. I've finally come to the conclusion that I'd rather quicker, more precise steering than the extra travel so I'd like to go to a fork with the original axle to crown height. That was 430mm give or take. Problem is, I can't find a fork with in that size today. So I need some help with suggestions on which fork to look at. I'd like a decent (not outrageously expensive for an older bike like this) fork with around 430mm axle to crown height. New would be preferable but if they just don't make them anymore then a gently used vintage fork would do nicely as well so feel free to suggest brands/models from the past too. Thanks for the help.
