Australia - New Zealand - Where did you ride your bike today?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Today: Out to Sumner, then up Evans Pass and along the Summit Road to Dyers Pass. Stopped at the Sign of the Kiwi to clean my glasses so I could see on the ride down Dyers Pass. Stopped for a coffee at the bottom before riding home.

Didn't ride this weekend as I was skiing at Mt Hotham......
Driving up from Harrietville to Hotham, it was 30km of steep and winding road - a cyclists dream......
mmmmm! An Autumn trip perhaps?
It's amazing how I look at the roads that I am driving on these days - always with an eye to how nice it would be to cycle them.

It is National Ride To Work Day today, but I didn't ride to work - not brave enough to ride over the Roseville Bridge.....
Anyway, I decided to ride the distance that I would have to ride if I did ride to work.
Dee Why to North Head to Fairlight and back to Dee Why - 26.7km
North Head is a great little side-trip spoiled by speed humps every 30m or so, but the view when having a quick drinks break while the sun is still coming up is beautiful.

Today I rode about 18km, to the doctor and back, to X-ray the foot I bruised falling off at the beginning of yesterday's 15km ride). It isn't broken (probably - he wants me to go back on Monday to be sure).
One bit of heart trouble when it got hot early afternoon at the start of my return journey, other than that a perfect day.
Not a huge distance, but very satisfying for someone who can't walk without aids. I tow my granny-walker (rollator) behind the bike and strap my walking sticks to the seat back.
Yesterday a police car did a u-turn and came back just to take photos! They were laughing… I wonder why?

Since I made my last post, I have added a trailer. I can now take our dog, Katie, to the start of the bike path network, let her out and ride while she runs. She jumps in the trailer when she wants a rest, on sections of path where the visibility isn't good (I don't want her causing another cyclist to crash), places where I have to ride on the road for a while and even when she finds other dogs we meet a little too boisterous!
I've been riding between 12km and 40 km a day. Today was a short ride, because she and I both found the heat (37ºC/98.6F) a little overwhelming. I coped by drinking plenty and soaking my shirt frequently with water from a spray bottle. Katie wore a soaked teatowel over her shoulders.
The forecast for tomorrow is more of the same.
I have to go to the doctor; I wonder if he'll mind me turning up with wet clothes? :D

I've been laid up for a week, so I haven't ridden since Monday of last week. But that was a good weekend! Yes, I overdid it by a humongous margin and will probably be paying for it for a month, but it was well worth it.
On Sunday 13th, I had a long ride, taking the dog and the kiddie trailer. Hubby was playing in a chess tournament so he had taken the car and the big trailer to somewhere near the War Memorial. I rode along the paths from Duffy through to the north shore of Lake Burley Griffin, allowing Katie to run whenever the visibility was good, and telling her to jump back in the trailer for narrow or twisty parts of the ride and whenever we had roads to negotiate.
When I got to the Commonwealth bridge, I rode across it and then along the southeastern shore to the rose gardens in front of Old Parliament House. I had registered online for the 25km Big Canberra Bike Ride so I was headed for the registration tent. There I signed in, picked up my ride number and T-shirt, had a rest and then headed back across the Kings Avenue Bridge and up through the side streets to the other side of the War Memorial where hubby had parked the car. We strapped Charlie and the kiddie trailer in the big trailer ready for the next morning, and hubby drove us all home. Katie was very, very tired!
Early Monday morning, hubby drove me to Canberra, parked just north of the Commonwealth Bridge and unloaded Charlie. I rode down to the start point where there were thousands upon thousands of other cyclists. Not being very quick, I joined near the rear.
It was huge fun! Being part of such a large number of cyclists was very exciting; I've never done anything like it before. There was a rest break about half way, and I didn't feel very tired so I only stopped for a couple of minutes and set off when another group did.
When I got back to the finish, I collected my certificate of completion and then went to the Heart Foundation tent where I was offered a massage, which I declined, and a T-shirt as a reward for fundraising, which I accepted. :)
Thanks to friends and family all over the world, I raised $515. Thanks to everyone! :thumb:
As a request from some of my sponsors, I did the whole ride dressed as a pirate:

Just back from a 60km night ride in Tallebudgera Valley. Tonight I saw glow worms, crabs, frogs, canetoads, bats, a possum, a moon-rise and some mist forming over some of the flat stretches in the moonlight. I think I might have also managed to sweat off about 2kg in weight -- it was very, very hot. Add that to the 26km ride to and from work this morning, and it's not a bad day's work.
