Obstinate

Hello, I live in Carson, CA and I'm 16. This might sound really strange, but I really don't want a car. If someone gave me one, I'd sell it for an awesome 10-speed road bike :).

But anyways, I got a $79 K-Mart bike a few days ago, rode it once, and it was terrible. After that, I started to get addicted to the thought of becoming a serious cyclist, like riding to school, work, to LA, etc. But the only problem is, most road bikes are really expensive. Is there anywhere I can buy, or make, a pretty good/decent road bike for $85 or less?

Go to some local thrift stores (Good Will, Salvation Army) and pawn shops and take a look you might find a good 10 speed that may need a few things and tune up, I've seen some once in a while. Hit up all the yard sales, swap meets. Get one that works and fix it up over time.
Head over to Alpine Village swap meet over the weekend they have many old bikes, for $85 you won't get a hole lot but something to start with and fix up.
