Im contemplating a ride with my mate to Melbourne from Adelaide this summer, but before we can actually take it seriously, we need to know if its possible. The shortest route by road is 725km or 451 miles. To reduce the cost of lodging after every day were thinking about packing a 2 man tent and sleeping in camp zones in towns. We will carry everything with our bikes, water, food, cooking equipment, clothes, batteries, torches, spare bike equipment, first-aid. Do you think it'll be too heavy to ride with?
Our budget for bikes is about $500 aus, and a bit more for equipment. So yeah im just throwing it out there, is it possible!?
Oh yeah and back again after maybe a week stay.

Hey, you should post in the touring forum, that's where the long distance riders who sleep & camp hang out.

been there, done that
Of course it is possible.
I did the same thing as part of my Perth to Sydney long distance ride
the worst part. Mount Lofty
plenty of places to rough camp along the way.
