Folding Bikes - speedpro

A nice thread from a weight weenie in China in love with his Dahon Speed Pro. He has admirably reduced the weight from factory 10.4kg to 7.7kg.

R-20's: In the beginning...

Don't understand why he didn't shave the various braze-ons (weld-ons?) such as the rear rack mounts or the front Magnetix holder (I swear I see it there... or is that his skewer?) That stuff totally wrecks the lines of the bikes visually for me... and it must be equally important given what other lengths he went to in the other areas.

I went to weigh the front Magnetix piece, but I seem to have lost it since taking it off :(

The drilled out seatpost made me cringe, so I'm glad he went with the carbon Pazzaz.

Other things:

KCNC brake levers are lighter than Extralite (46g pair vs 64g according to specs) and they are 54% of the price. So I'm not sure why he went with Extralite ~ granted Extralite is cool, but so is KCNC.

KCNC V-brakes are 58g a set = 116g/pair, and are priced 66% of Extralite which are 99g a set = 198g/pair. All according to specs listed at Fairwheelbikes.com. His modified Kinetix weighed in at 256g.

Anyway, I'll stop picking on his bike, obviously he is very proud of it and has put a LOT of work and thought into it, so definitely kudos to him! Plus if he can actually ride that a**-hatchet of a saddle, well... :)

Looks like he has a 2005 Speed Pro, and lucky for him it has the aluminum fork...

One thing he did I wouldn't- ditch the DualDrive. It would still only be 9 kg with all his other mods. I could have done with that weight on Sunday (some serious climbs on the Isle of Wight), but I'd still have wanted the ultra-low gears.
Serious attention to detail though, worthy of Raxel & co :)
