My wife unexpectedly got her mother's 1996 Mercury Mystique.
I admit, it's nice (and it was free. Now that's my kind of bargain! ;) )

So my brother-in-law says, with a straight face, "Pete, now that you have two cars, you won't have to ride a bicycle to work anymore!"

After choking on my own breath, I regained composure enough to thank him for his kind thoughts.

:D

Right now you couldn't give me a car (unless of course, it had a good resale value). Think about it, they have to be maintained, registered, fuelled. And what about the space it takes up?

Pete, give him a bike and tell him, "Now that you have a bike, you won't have to drive a car to work anymore."

I'd just love to see him do that...

Just yesterday my wife said, "You know, we should go ahead and buy the pickup truck you've been wanting now with all the manufacturers are offering 0% financing and low prices." I said "Why buy another vehicle when we haven't missed the second one since we got rid of it months ago?"

Good one! :D :D

I want all my family to enter the spiritual door I have entered (through cycling.) But it seems like there is this "wall" that is hard to get over. It reminds me of the old saying, "They only want to hire people with experience, but I can't get any unless someone hires me!" In the same way, no one will understand what I'm trying to tell them about cycling unless they already are a cyclist. What to do?

(Still, NO ONE has overlooked my "new" physique...) ;)

That's it! You passed the test, Raymond.

Resist temptation and you will overcome! ;)

You know, there are times I feel as if I am in a war of sorts.

First, my wife tried to stop me. Then my coworkers and aquaintances. Of course, the occasional uneducated driver tossed their hat into the ring.

Yet I have emerged, without too much "smell of smoke," with the exception of a scar under my lip and some pretty strawberries. ;) But those are merely badges of honor.

They aren't the strawberries of the 'orgasmic' kind by any chance? It really bothers me that I never got to try those.

Nah! Not buying the truck just helps me justify the money I spend on my bikes. :D
