A buddy of mine wants to start racing, he is fairly new to cycling but he's an overall great athlete. He puts in usually 20-40 miles rides every now and then.
Should he start his base training now? I suggested he just tries to put in mileage and get ready for longer rides and we can work on speed and intervals later on around nov/december-ish.
Just wondering if you guys agree with my choice for him

Do you live in the southern hemisphere?
I live in the northern hemisphere and started base training in February.
It's all base training. :)
Start base training now. Or, Nov/Dec...or like me, in January. Feb is a bit late, imo.
It's all base training. :)
+1
just keep riding, eventually there will come a point in time when you need to do intervals and stuff...
i started (base) training in march and started racing 2 weeks later. yes i sucked, but it was great motivation to get better.
