Hi Gang,
I'm thinking of embarking on a regular work commute that will take me from Champaign, IL to Chicago with a couple of train changes and a short 2-3 mile ride at the end. The end result is about 3.5 hours by train and a few miles of actual riding.

I have a Giant Halfway. It's a little on the heavier side of things, but overall it's a pretty nice bike. I won't be carrying it too much so the weight isn't much of an issue. My main concern with this potential commute is weather.

I've got my eye on the cheapish O2 Rainwear Suit (http://www.rainshield.com/p_cycling.html). It's totally ugly, but I'm more concerned with being dry than looking good. ;)

Does anyone have any experience with this suit? What do you use?

Thanks for any info or suggestions you can provide...

I never wear anything much on my legs. A well ventilated gore-tex jacket.

Most important if you wear eyeglasses: A cycling cap. The brim is just long enough to keep the rain out of your eyes, but not so long that it restricts your vision. Can be worn under a helmet.

Pretty much everything I wear outdoors is by Paramo now. They've taken the mountain rescue world by storm and if it's good enough for them... :) http://www.paramo.co.uk Other than that I have an Endura 'breathableish' top that I use as it's rather a fetching emergency service yellow. My other choice is a Paramo jacket - far far far better than Goretex for breathability. (look for Paramo or Event fabric IMHO...) legs - www.rainlegs.co.uk are a fun idea that I see used. Failing that I have some paramo windproof trousers that are TX treated and cope very well - or I wear shorts and don't care :)

I wear the O2 hooded jacket and like it alot, but would not use the pants because I think the seat would not hold up. Instead I'd probably wear something like the golite reed pants if I needed rain pants.

Can the pants be worn over work clothes?

Get a size larger for pants, and the full zip. I wear a L jacket, which is more than adequate (6', 210#) but got the L pants which are snug wearing jeans, but probably fine with slacks. But like I said, the full zip is much more convenient albeit a bit more expensive. Can get a little sweaty so I usually wear a moisture wicking shirt and put on dress shirt at work.
