Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I bought this from a dump shop (In Australia) complete with 3 piece Takagi
tourney 170 cranks, and Tange?? Forks. It has some pretty bad surface rust
and from the look of it i would guess that it is late 70's or early 80's.
The stickers (mostly illegiable) were, "Ashtabula" and "Supermax" or
"Supermaxy"???? (As well as one saying something about being an official
supplier to the olympics??) Sorry it's not much to go on - the only other
features is a possible serial number printed on the frame (947).

Dont know if this is going to prove difficult, but would really appreciate
knowing what frame i have here so that i can restore it as close to original
as possible....

Found out through a friend of mine and another forum that the frame is a Malvernstar supermax. Buest guess on the date is the early 1980's. I have emailed the manufacturer and if i get a response from them I will post again and let you all know. Malvernstar is an australian based manufacturer, but possibly has close ties to schwinn and powerlite.

Hello probably a bit late to reply but for future reference this is definately a Malvern Star SuperMaxi. When I was a boy (9?) I recieved an orange Malvern star Maxi for Christmas in 1981. After that I started to notice more and more of the Supermaxi. Supermaxis were nearly all chrome finish and I think from memory choices of anodised rims. My regular Maxi had chromed rims black hubs (front hubs had a high flange) matte black bars and a coaster brake. Supermaxis were on par with the local nieghbour legend the mongoose "supergoose". I loved that bike, repainted it and still rode it at 16.

Here is a pretty daggy photograph of me on the Maxi, two days after Christmas. I think I look better on a bike now!

Yes you are right ofofhy,

I included my photo in the interests of chance occurances for someone else Id'ing their frame or bike. It was the same situation that I found out about the bike I currently own.
