Hello--

I'm going to be in Birmingham AL next week for meetings at the Corporate Office, and since its National Bike to Work Week, I'd like to see about renting a Bike to Ride back and forth from the Hotel Highlands. Can anyone from the Birmingham area give me info on good bike shops in the BHM area. I'll be staying in the 5 Point South Area and our CO is only about 2-3 miles away from this area.

Also, does anyone know approximate rates for renting? I've never rented and am just curious. Thanks for any help that you can provide!!!

I don't know if anyone rents in the area, but the local shops closest to your hotel are: Homewood location of Bob's (http://bobs-bikes.com/index.cfm), Homewood location of Cahaba Cycles (http://cahabacycles.com/index.cfm), and my personal favorite, BBC (http://www.bhambicycle.com/). PM me for any more info. The B'ham Bike Club (http://www.bhambikeclub.org/) is sponsoring a bike-to-work ride. Check out their calendar.

Since you're at 5 Points you're right in B'ham foodie central. If the Co is paying (or you can afford it), right across the street is Highland's Bar & Grill, voted one of the top restaurants in the country and owned by James Beard Award winner Frank Stitt. He also owns Bottega and Chez Fon Fon close by. Right down the street is the Hot 'n Hot Fish Club, owned by Chris & Idie Hastings. It has also won major national recognition.

Do not let them take you to chain restaurants. You have some great choices here. The closest thing to a chain that I would eat at is Ruth's Chris Steak House.

I love the Highlands B&G and their french dip sandwhich. We usually eat the Highlands B&G on Tuesday night and Cosmo's on Wednesday Night. Thanks for the Info. I looked up some of those LBS and they all say they have rentals on their website. I call them next week.
