I've had my 305 for almost a year. Has always worked just fine. The other day I was doing a 50-mile bike ride over somewhat bumpy, but not outrageous, pavement, when the thing just turned off on its own. It was fully charged, BTW.

At the next stop sign I turned it on, and all was well, except that it calculated my average speed as if I'd packed the whole 36 miles into the last minute. Boy was I looking fast. When I downloaded the data to my computer it computed the average correctly, and I was as slow as ever.

So what happened, do you all think? If there's something wrong with the unit I'll need to take action soon, given that it's almost a year old.

Thanks in advance for all advice

It's the internal battery connection. This is a well documented problem that won't go away. Read the Motion Based forums:

Contact Garmin.

Good luck and if you are using the unit for navigation, always bring a backup paper map and que sheet.
