We have now grown to such a size that we needed a night guard. To keep the night guard company, it was an excuse to get another dog. :D So, someone in the Central Valley posted on a forum they had a stray Boxer that they found (puppy really) that was abandoned. I drove 2 1/2 hours to retrieve it, and now we have a Boxer puppy named Capitán. The guard named him.

Anyway, like any puppy, Capitán is learning his place in life. Though larger than Silky (Cocker Spaniel), he just found out yesterday he is merely a puppy.

Silky is pretty tolerant of anything we own, he knows I am in charge but I found out there is a exception.

Silky is only 2 years old, so still very playful (probably will be forever) and loves to chase sticks, balls, Frisbees, etc. Capitán has no clue about bringing it back.

Well, I threw the stick and Silky ran after it looking like a black streak. Capitán followed, loping along like the big awkward puppy he is. Silky had it in his mouth and Capitán decide to try to take it away...

Let's just say I don't think he is going to do that again any time soon... There wasn't a mark on Capitán after, but I wouldn't have bet on it...

Boxer puppies rock.

I love their awkwardness.

Silky better watch out in about a year when Capitan will be a force to be reckoned with ;)

By then, Silky will have established the dominant position....and yeah...boxer puppies are great entertainment. Their feet are too big for their bodies, and well, the are very awkward for about 9 mos. Great entertainment :roflmao:

I wouldn't bet on it - Silky is a blur, I have never seen a dog so fast. I know German Shepherds in the area are afraid of him.

Our son had his mutt down with him. Six year old mastiff, pit bull, rotti cross. 100 lbs if an ounce. She lost against Silky. She touched his food dish.

You can see what goes through their minds, "if he would just stand still..."

Silky, because he follows me in the farms, has developed like all my dogs. Good food, lots of exercise running behind horses and ATVs. Pure muscle and lots of it. He looks like he is on steriods.

Cockers were bred to hunt birds AND protect their owners when in the field. I just look at a strange dog and Silky will attack it.

No question, Silky is the boss and likely to remain so. The puppy is funny. We gave him a big bone with lots of meat of it. He had no idea how to proceed. Kept trying to chew it standing up - and having no luck. Eventually he noticed that Silky had his on the ground gnawing on it and followed suit. One happy puppy. When we got him he was nearly starved to death.

Having a very well trained dog (Silky) helps so much with a puppy. The puppy is learning that if Silky is paying attention, he better too. Silky is actually training the puppy as much as I do.

The puppy gets so much attention, it is really good for him. From 9pm to 5 am he is with Juan, the guard. They have a route every 30 minutes or so they do. Capitán is to protect the guard (which isn't that necessary but it makes him feel better - things are very safe here). Then, from 6 am to 2 pm he is with Ignacio, our gardener. From 2 pm to 9 pm he is with me some and he also sleeps to get ready for the night. We are talking one happy puppy...

During the day as well he gets to play with Silky. Just as long as he doesn't touch the stick, all will be okay.

One thing that really surprised me with Silky and Gretel (our son's dog), they learned to play catch, with each other!

They were both tied up so they couldn't get tangled up. So, they started tossing a ball back and forth. I wish I had captured it on video. Silky will drop the ball and kick it with his foot. He does it all the time.
