Trek2.1 or Giant OCR2

Ok, I have narrowed the decision down to these two bikes. The OCR2 is the 2007 model. I have ridden both bikes and they feel great. I need to know which has the better components and if enyone recommends one over the other. Also, both LBS are very helpful so I feel comfortable buying from either store. The Trek is $1039 wqhile the OCR2 is $799.

The Pilot 2.1 has a more relaxed geometry than the Giant - you'll probably ride a bit more upright on the Trek. It will also absorb a bit more of the road buzz.....I'd ride both, and pick which ever one felt more comfortable - the $300 difference will be forgotten in 6 months - but you'll have the bike a lot longer than that.

Is the Giant a triple or compact crank, can't tell by numbers you posted. If not that may account for a hundred bucks. Triples are usually more. Prolly a compact too! P;us the carbon stay s are far more expensive when buying a bike. Shopping ofr a bike, I fond the same modelw ith cf stays was about $400 difference in the same brand.

I myself would go with the Trek for the simple fact that they list the brand of stems and such. I worry when the mfgr lists: stem, alloy/ handlebars, alloy. Makes me wonder!:D

I have the Trek 2.1 pilot (2007) and LOVE it. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

I ride an OCR and am enjoying it very much. Its a great bike. The carbon stays buzz thing is part of the choices, though not as much as choice of tire width. Either one will do the job and give you many hours of fun. I like the slightly more aggressive positioning of the compact frame. If I'm not mistaken all of the Aluminum OCRs come with a triple.

I'd strongly urge you if you go for the OCR to take $25 and upgrade the front derailer to a 105 as the tiagra front derailer is much harder to keep aligned for shifting. Also for the difference in price you could flip out the tiagra shifters for 105s if your so inclined as well.

Are they at the same LBS? Do you like one shop better than the other? Seems Giant and Trek both prefer to be "THE" brand in any shop, so you don't see too many at the same shop.

Of course, YMMV and my Trek dealer sells Pinarellos, Salsas, Kona, etc.

I wish I had a Trek/Specialized shop. I've got a Trek (and Trek derivatives shop) that does have some Breezer, Surly, Felt. Then I got my Specialized shop that has Schwinn, now Giant (in limited amounts). Where I come from Trek obviously dominates the arena in the bigger shops. smaller ones you'll find Salsa, etc.

Me too. I think mine is a little older, it's 105 all around and Select wheels. I was worried about those, but so far they are holding up under my 225 +/-...

To the OP, are you looking at the 2.1 or the Pilot 2.1?
