even if technically it is someone elses "fault".
Me and this other guy were riding up a hill, waiting to get into a group of about 50 riders on the Saturday morning training race/ride. He's blabbing away about how fast he is, how he kicks in this group all the time etc and I look back, see that the group is about to catch us, and tell him. He's on my left and a little ahead of me. So what does he do, he moves completely over to his right and sits up, completely stops pedalling up a hill! At the same time, I'm looking over and getting out of the saddle to get in with the group. So I run up is wheel and crash in front of the entire group, scrambling to get out of the way so I don't take anyone else down, which would really be embarrassing.
Just one second of inattention and I let him take me down. Oh well.

Did he apologize ? He's the one who should be embarrassed.

He didn't actually apologize, but at least he came back and was very contrite, he knew it was his fault. And I didn't push the issue that he pulled a bozo move because no matter what someone does in front of you (intentional dirty pool excepted), if you are a good rider you should be able to avoid crashing. Hence my embarrassment.

Glad you didn't get hurt! Other than your pride. But I disagree with your last comment. If you're in an escape group of four and the guy in front of you is over his limit by a large amount, and half-wheels the dude in front, rubs, and goes down, all in an instant, well, you are going to go over him, and the guy behind you is going to go over you, and your bars will be bent 30 degrees, and your brake lever bent, and your helmet cracked, and seat scraped up. Not that this happened to me or anything...

Well, at least there was one other person involved. Had there not been, that would have been really embarrassing!
Glad you're physically alright.

When I crashed and broke my face two weeks ago, the only thing I kept repeating was my mom's phone number and how someone should call her. She lives 3.5 hours away. I'm 19 though, and they needed to come to the ER anyway, but it's just funny that it's all I did and I don't remember any of it...
San Rensho - "Crashing is always embarrassing"
Incorrect - you just need more practice. Even if you have no real talent in this area, poise will come with confidence.

Almost forgot to mention the most important part. 'Fault' is a red-herring. Makes no difference whatsoever. Just practice.

last year when the dude in front of me touched wheels and went down I was launched over him and ended up breaking my arm pretty bad. The dude I went over actually threw his sunglasses at me as I struggled in pain on the grass.

Now THAT is a dick move. I hope you crushed them in your pain.
