Same venue (Prospect Park) new promoter (Greg Avon instead of Anthony Van Dunk), different names for each race (God knows what it was today, I don't), less laps (10 today instead of 13), mercifully later start time (6:40 vs. 6:30, every ten minutes helps). The rain blew out, the course was mostly dry, the daylight was up and we got to race.
Plenty of lame breakaway efforts before the two man move that succeeded (I participated in one that tried to get a gap and failed) in the end my team mate Jerry got loose with one Axis guy (not the Axis of Evil, some bicycle team named Axis), they clung to a 10 second lead and Jerry won. GL (my team) got 4th and 6th, so 3 out of the top 6 places were Global Locate. Steroid John was 5th, so 4 of the top 6 places were Nyack Ride regulars. No thanks to me, but I didn't get shelled, spent some time at the front (including that little foray off the front for a lame half mile or so) and generally soaked up the NY City racing scene, which I always do enjoy.
No crashes today despite some very slimy tree-blooming crap pavement at the bottom of the 35mph descent (slight curve). That was spooky. But it stayed safe. Those Vets know how to keep their bikes upright. Which is very much appreciated by those of us who don't want to go to a Brooklyn ER on Saturday morning. Fast race, average speed about 24.8 mph. 9th mass start race of the year for Pcad.
