Northern California - Lighthouse Registration June 2nd

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Lighthouse Century registration opens June 2nd at midnight. This is one of the most popular rides in California, and it typically sells out within 12 hours. This would be a great opportunity to get a joint NorCal and SoCal BF ride going. However, in order to make sure you make it, decide soon, set your alarm clock, and be one of the first to register.

I'm planning on signing up. However, since I live on Morro Bay, I'm not sure if I'm NorCal or SoCal.

I'll be all over that. I've wanted to do this ride for the past three years but I'm too late every time. This year I shall have my satisfaction.

pretty sure I will do this one
Sounds nice. I may have to think about giving this one a shot, despite the excessive drive involved.

This one's been on my calendar for a while - hey, that would be my 3rd time riding with the BF folks! (excepting Taxi777, who seems to pop up anywhere I'm riding).

It's also a great ride for tandems. Come on all you tandems, let's get a tandem pack going, so we can suck on your wheel for 100 miles.

Ahhhh, the Lighthouse, my first and only century... that was in '78, '79 or '80 (I don't remember). The onshore breeze in the afternoon blows ya back to SLO! The clam chowder in a bread bowl was good-O!
I took a nap on the beach, waiting for the breeze to pick up, and never got my shirt, because I coasted into town about five p.m.
After that, I made the trip several times.
May I recommend Taco Temple in Morro Bay? Sooo good... it's where Gene's Grinder (among others) used to be, in the parking lot of the grocery store on the right - get off 1 at the offramp for the back road to Atascadero and proceed north parallel to the highway.

Registration is coming up, Monday, midnight, June 2nd ...
1. set your alarm clock,
2. wake up around midnight
3. register for the ride, and get your confirmation
4. go back to sleep
I've got my pals in SoCal prepping up for this, so let's make this a great joint BF ride ... NorCal and SoCal. I'll start making a roster soon.

might do this one, and make a weekend in SLO out of it.

Cool. A bunch of people are making a weekend out of this one. This will be a perfect ride for the tandem. You could pick up some serious speed.
i'm planning on signing up tonight or first thing monday morning. ... even better, my wife likes the idea of a long weekend on the central coast for our 2-year anniversary, even if i'll be out riding for one of those days.

Tricia and I sat on the fence just an hour or so too long for this, so we won't be there.
Kind of a relief in a way. It's a long way away and we'd be leaving late.
So, slog up a hill for us. Be sure to be way out of breath when you get half way up.

Curtis,
You don't get away with it that easily. Check the web site about two weeks before the ride start, and there will be people selling their spots, guaranteed. I like what SLOBC does ... they provide a page for selling registrations. I did that last year, and it worked out great!

I tried their provided link to area motels - the first eight or so on the Yahoo listing all were one star with scary reviews. I'd think it would be easy to find a place that's not too expensive and isn't a hole, but who knows. Looks like the start is midway between Morro Bay and SLO?

Yes, it is pretty easy. Sometimes, I just ask for multiple route slips, and decide while on the road which one to do. But I'm pretty much going to do the hilly century.

I signed up as well, but for the flat century - I'm such a wimp! Reg #1418.
I look forward to meeting some Norcal BF folks in person.
