One of the most common threads here is what bike should I ride. I am a 340 lb clyde (down from over 400). I am not a bike newbie, when I was young I did some medium distance touring 5-600 miles and some racing.
My road bike is a 1991 Bridgestone RB-1. It is definitely a classic but I am not a collector. I bought it in 1995 when Bridgestone got out of the US bike business. I had been calling bike shops all over the midwest looking for a new RB-1. Eventually I found a used one.
This Spring I had the frame powdercoated and had new wheels built. The bike is still old school but with a few upgrades. I polished up the old Phil Wood hubs and had them laced to white machined Velocity Deep V's. I upgraded the brake pads to Kool Stop dual compounds. Last year I changed the shifting to Dura Ace triple front and Shimano XT rear along with an Ultegra triple crank. I changed the rings to TA Alize so I could get 48-38-24 with 13-24 7 speed in the back. The shifting is Shimano 600 SIS.
In the photos you can see some of the BLING I added. I wrapped the bars with VeloOrange white elk leather wraps. Originally I planned on using Velox rubber bar plugs but when I saw Hope's polished aluminum Grip Doctor bar plugs, I couldn't help myself.
My wife asked me if I could have nay bike I wanted, and price were no object, what would it be? I told her that it would look an awful lot like this one.
