Is NorthStar an Austin company? I was told they make a few bikes but have never heard of them or found anything when I did a search.

Not sure...
I have a commuter bike that was labeled as a "north star" frame. It's a solid forked aluminum mountain bike frame. I bought it at Cyclone cycles in Houston, they told me they got the frame as a demo from Taiwan and built the bike up on spec.
Thanks HG how do you like the bike? I got one for my step son to ride during his college years in Idaho. Its an Estralla UX and like yours is a mtn frame, with 1.4 slicks a good commuter type ride.
Mine has slicks, too. It's a nice commuter - light, responsive, and takes any kind of road no problem. I rode it faithfully for about a year (13 mi round trip). Then I discovered how much more comfortable I am with drop bars and a steel frame. Plus it's a bit big for me. So I am looking to re-home it.
Their website says they are in New York.

I pop up some virus warnings on that site- and looks like that's a dealer, not a manufacturer.
Good catch. I didn't look far enough into the site. :o
