I found out that riding my 4300 is a lot more labor intensive than my 7.5FX. Although I'll be using the FX for the Prouty ride, I was wondering if I should use the 4300 for hill climbing which gives a harder workout, or just use the FX.
I'm thinking I'll just use both. Kinda like cross training.
Any thoughts on this?
tnx

Both. That way you're good on either as well. ;)

That's what I was thinking. The 4300 beats the Jeeebus out of me on the hills. I thought, if it's harder, I'll get more out of it.

To a point. There is also the difference in geometry as well, though.
I'd also suggest you devote some time to core exercises for trunk strength and swimming for additional cardio, by the way. Periodization of intensity as well.

I started doing a lifting routine, light. Chest and back then arms and shoulders. Abs and legs every day. Biking is my cardio. Periodization I just discovered in Joe Friel's book 'Cycling past 50' I just picked up.

Good, add in some body weight only squats as well. I do a single leg monopod squat routine as part of my workout. Do them near a wall and be ready to just use a fingertip to balance yourself. They are a great combination for quads, adductors, IT Band AND core and balance exercise.
Essentially, standing on one leg, dip to a 90% bend at the knee and rise, keeping your body as vertical as you can......and remember to breathe while you do it! Start off easy with 5 per leg, per session set and do 3 sets. Slowly increase the number in the set. You will absolutely not believe the increase in leg power AND stability in your core muscles after a bit.

I had a Pulmonary Function test @ the VA last week. My numbers were as good or in some cases better than the 42 yr old respiratory therapist that gave it to me who never smoked. I smoked 2 pks / day for over 30 yrs.
I'll ask my Dr. if she'll give me the max VO2 test, I'm sure she will.
Now! Back to the topic! Ride both I see and push hard!!!
