Hey Guys,
Looking for some nice routes leaving from Sea Isle or nearby. I''d prefer to stay off the busy roads like Rt 9, etc. Will be spending some weekends down the shore this summer and will need to keep up the training.

Thanks

good idea "training" off busy roads, but what distance, level, style of riding (road-mtn-hybrid) are you planning to do?
hard to feed-back without knowing...

Take a look at the NJ Bike Map site (http://www.njbikemap.com/). Looking at the Sea Isle map, It looks like you have a number of options. I brought my bike with me last summer when we were in Cape May and got a few nice rides in. If you go down to Cape May, use the Seashore Rd bridge to get over the canal, the one off the end of the Parkway has heavier traffic and is less rideable. Most of the side roads were reasonable. I tried one day riding from the Parkway bridge over to 621/Ocean Dr and Wildwood. I got as far as the toll bridge - no sidewalk, no shoulder, fast traffic, and the weather was getting worse (light drizzle becoming heavy drizzle/rain), so I bagged it and turned around. I noticed on mapmyride a route from Cape May north thru Sea Isle that goes this way, so someone thinks it's do-able. Other than that one bridge, it wasn't bad and in better weather I'd have probably tried it.

There's a 45 mile loop at mapmyride (http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/nj/sea-isle-city/275171014) that goes almost up to Atlantic City.

Sorry, I should have been more specific, when not racing I will probably be down the shore on weekends. I'm looking for some nice 40-60 mile routes, give or take a little. I do road and crit races, currently cat4 but hope to be a 3 before the end of the season so I'd say my level is pretty high.

Thanks that looks like a decent ride, but I think rt9 is gonna be busy. I think it may be hard to get some good rides in staying off the major roads as I am not familiar with the roads other then the main ones I take to get down the shore.

I was worried about that, too. Then again, I'm a cat-nothing, so your definition of a hard training ride is going to be a bit more than mine. :) There seems to be a grid of smaller secondary/tertiary roads paralleling 9 and the Parkway. The ones down by Cape May were pretty rideable, at least on a summer weekday. I'd print out PDFs from the NJ Bike Map site for where you're going to be, and maybe get off the Parkway early to check out Rt 9 1st-hand on the way down. I rode on 9 a short way down by the ferry terminal and I thought the shoulder was OK. Hopefully someone with local knowledge will chime in. Are there any enthusiast bike shops (versus the "we rent beach cruisers") in the area? A google search turned up South Jersey Wheelmen (over towards Vineland) (http://www.sjwheelmen.org) and Shore Cycle Club (http://www.shorecycleclub.org/)which seems to be closer to where you want to ride.

Thanks ks1q I appreciate your input. I'll check out shore cycle club but usually do my training alone. I was thinking about it today and I bet rt 9 won't be so bad early on sat/sun mornings, I'm talking like 6:30 or 7. I can ride for 2 hours or so then be back to spend the day on the beach with the family.

Thanks again!
