Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hi, so I am in Brisbane until Mid-June. I really want to try to some mountain biking while I am here and was hoping someone might help me out. I have never meen mtbing before so I was hoping some one may be able to show me the ropes (and lend me a bike for the trip, all I have here is a road fixie). Hope someone is interested in helping me out here.

Hi Dan, Welcome to the Bay Area, this place is awesome for mtn. biking. I am in Los Gatos down by San Jose. I don't have a bike to loan you but you should check out local bike shops to see if they rent mtn. bikes or ask for referrals to other shops. If you have a car you can fit that bike into, it would be well worth your time to check out Skyline, HWY 35, there are some really fun and intermediate trails you could practice on, Russian Ridge is a favorite, Google it. From Brisbane you would need to take 101 south to Hwy 92 west (toward Half Moon Bay), then take a left at the crest of the mountains for Hwy 35 south. From there its about 15 miles south at the intersection of Page Mill Road / Alpine Road and Hwy 35. The area is very natural but there is a sign you can see, just turn right onto Alpine Road (small street sign). There is some hill climbing but the terrain is nice and the ocean and bay area views are worth the visit!
For a mellow coastal ride you could drive to Half Moon Bay and cruise along the beaches on a paved trial. Ask the local bike shop where to go, ask if they have rentals too. The Pillar Point harbor area will take you out to Mavericks (famous surf spot), thats a nice flat dirt trial, mini parking lot there. That's about 1 mile from where I grew up in El Granada.
I'm sure there are trials closer to your home but I wouldn't be familiar with them, ask the bike shop guys where they go, most of those guys are bikers too.
Good luck.

Oops! Thats really funny "Brisbane" Queensland. I didn't even notice that. So much for being helpful. Maybe there are some good trails to the north in Noosa. :thumb:

Sorry about the confusion but indeed Brisbane, Australia is the location here. Thanks a lot for the australian mtb site. I e-mailed them and am waiting for a response. Hopefully soon before I get too bogged down with work. Thanks again.
