Looks like Specialized has stepped it up a notch. For a mere $2719 you can get their new Demo 9 frameset (http://www.specialized.com/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=6739&JServSessionIdroot=rfvf469pi9.j27002) .

I will be back looking for another DH ride after I get this current project finished (and after I recover my bank account :( )

This looks like a sweet bike. Hard to imagine you can invest as much cash in a DH bike that you can in a MX machine...

They are over priced but I am SURE the price will come down either next year or the year after.....like the bighits.

Well, IMO if you're gonna do it, you should do it right, and that means getting the floating brake. The floating brake adds a few hundred to the $1800 US base price. I got mine for a really good deal, so I can't really say what the normal price you'd pay is....maybe $2200ish?

The next time I build a DH bike I will do it differently than I did the last one. I tried to build one that would still do XC and it ended up not being very good at either DH or XC. On the next one I don't care if it weighs 45 lb's, as long as it has lots of travel, fits well, and is fairly bulletproof (and the more travel the better). It will probably be a year before I do it though, gonna stick to XC this year, and I'm trying to talk one of the area DH promoters into a "limited travel" DH class at the races next year. It's really not growing very fast in my area and I think one big reason is because of the expensive equipment. I think lots of people would sign up if they could run the same course on either beefy huck type HT's or even their XC duallie's, and not have to try to compete with the true DH bikes.

Very sweet bike ElJefe

I got a chance to pedal Tippie's demo 9 around and preferred the feel of it to the V-10's for the type of riding I do. The V-10 is definitely the faster race bike but I liked the fact that the demo 9 felt nice and compact, something you could do big drops on but could also throw around at low speed easily. Should make a fun freeride bike if you go big.

Youthful ability to heal? You're only 4 years older than I am. Yes I made the landing just fine, and the shot, as much as the photographer and I would like to pretend it was completely planned, was somewhat of an accident. I didn't have enough speed into the drop to get my whole body in the shot, and he hit the shutter too soon. Beautiful mistake huh?

O.k. WHEN I get a full suspension bike- AND my medical paid up and only if i'm not 40 by the time these things happen.
I was jumping bikes ala evil knieval the motercycle guy, when I was 13.
8 foot launch ramps to 2 foot landers- we didn't have bmx- not invented yet I think- so we would take mustangs - remove seat\post ect- put fatty tires on- anyway- we built a monster ramp @ the end of a hill- I overshot the landing ramp 1'st jump and flattened my rear rim ( made the landing tho)- sooo my kid buddy had just built the same jump bike -I borrowed his.... somehow his front wheel came off and jammed into the forks @ the top of the ramp and I headslammed into the pavement- I had indents into my skull from pepples on the road. they also had to flush out my ear canal cause it was full of blood.
probably made me a bit of a chicken s**t about jumping, I switched to scootboarding and wore a helmet.

oofa, nice crash description. Ouchie. We used to jump our bikes over pits full of broken bottles and cactus plants, while firing bottle-rockets at each other. We lit a few fields on fire in West Texas, but we sure had fun. I broke my first bike at age 4 when I rode it down a flight of steps at the church down the street. Snapped that little rigid steel frame at the head tube.

I never rode bmx as a kid, and once I discovered that I could run really really fast (age 9), I ditched the bike and ran (high school, college and pro circuit) till I just had too many injuries to keep running. I just started riding mtb about 3 1/2 years ago, but luckily my mindset didn't get more mature. I'm still thinking that launching off of stuff over pits of glass and debris is pretty cool. :p

Gives you a little incentive to make the jump fur shure..maybe some rattle snakes in tha pit or attach fireworks TO the bike and launch her..HEY.. firing rockets while jumping! geez thats a bit much. Skrew slamball, I think we have the new extreme sport for t.v. J

It is a real shame that SantaCruz SUCKS big time in the UK. What you pay in US/Can in US dollars we pay in pounds....so that means
V10 costs 3500$ for frame only with floating caliper
Bullit costs 2000$
Heckler is 1650$....

All in all, prices of SC are insane here....insanely overpriced....and personally i disrespect companies that dont follow the same policy globally, Specialized on the other hand....as Kona, Giant, Trek and others follow the same policy globaly in terms of prices.
so for me...Demo9 if i was to go big
