Well, I'm totally decided on a Motobecane cyclocross bike. I know there have been a few posts about the Fantom line, but I'm torn between these two:
1. Fantom Cross CX ($499) - http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/fantom_cross_cx.htm
2. Fantom Cross ($799) - http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/fantom_cross_preorder100.htm
I'm relatively new to cycling and am in need of an experienced cyclist's opinion. I'd like an all-season bike that I can use primarily as a road or commuting bike, but also one that I could ride occasionally on gravel or in a little bit of snow.

I prefer the red. The more expensive bike has some better/more expensive parts on it. I prefer the Tiagra shifters to the thumb tabs on the Sora's.
Bottom line, both bikes will do the same job, but if you have the money get the more expensive bike.
I like then red but I'm not sure Tiagra is worth an extra $300 over Sora. Shop around some more. See if you can find a bike with 105 FD and shifters too for that price ($800)

better fork, 105 rear and fr tiagra derailleur, better wheels, better crank.
Bike is definitely worth the $800 bikesdirect is asking for it. Depends on whether you need to have your hand held by the lbs.
I am also biased because i own one which i slapped fenders and a rack on and use as my winter commuter.
